The US Open is currently underway at Flushing Meadows, and tennis expert Evan Psarras has provided us with his best betting plays of Day 11.
If we are being brutally honest, here is not much left in this part of the draw for Zverev to beat. For a significant period he would run into the likes of Nadal, Berdych and Thiem as early as the 3rd Round and in more recent years it would be Alcaraz and Djokovic in the quarters. He now faces Van de Zandschulp who has never been beyond the quarters of a major, let alone win one. To make matters worse for the Dutchman, he is coming off back-to-back five set marathons. His latest victory over Gea went 5 hours and 18 minutes with the pair playing out three tiebreakers and Van de Zandschulp successfully coming back from two sets down. Zverev has been utterly dominant on serve in his recent matches which makes it difficult to find any path to victory for Van de Zandschulp. Expecting him to lose at least one set by a double break margin and am very surprised that we can get close to even money for Zverev to win in straight sets.

Our concern over Tien covering the line against Khachanov came to fruition as the Russian was able to utilise his power and experience to overcome the highly touted American. He now faces another emerging star with Blockx making his first quarter finals appearance in only his fourth Grand Slam played. The Belgian was able to break serve to close out the 3rd and 4th sets of his match against Cerundolo but for the first time in the tournament he faces a player who’s serve can be described as a weapon. His first four opponents (Barrios Vera, Trungelliti, Cobolli and Cerundolo) all prefer clay and none of them stand up on the baseline like Khachanov does. Blockx has done a great job defending from deep in the court, hitting an array of forehand passing shots, but he will find it more difficult to do that against Khachanov. They could play multiple breakers but Khachanov will win and cover the start.
