Matt Markham gives his best in all races at Addington Harness on Friday 17 July.
Wanted to lock on a rein and run out a bit around the last bend last week, but an encouraging start to the new campaign for Nothing But You (10) all the same. Drops into this race beautifully and as the class horse of the field deserves the short quote. Should deliver too, even from the second row.
Selections: 10-5-8-3-7
10. Nothing But You (1) J: Blair Orange 223×2T: Steven Reid
After looking all at sea in a trial prior to last week’s debut, Easton Doll (3) did everything right and turned in a creditable effort for second. Should be a quick maiden winner from there and with a good draw to use tonight and a bit more experience, might not have to wait long for that win.
Selections: 3-6-2-5-7
3. Easton Doll (3) J: Carter Dalgety 2T: Bronson Munro
Really strong return to racing seven days ago from Nikolai Ray (2) when finishing fourth behind Mynameisjack. Will have taken considerable benefit from that run and lands much better draw to use here tonight. Should have the measure of most here with the right kind of run.
Selections: 2-3-7-5-1
2. Nikolai Ray (2) J: Sam Thornley 364×4T: Ken Barron
The result shows that Taumutu Lad (7) finished last here last week, but it doesn’t tell anywhere near the full story. Got back from a tricky draw and was steaming home once again and beaten by only a small margin in a blanket finish. Has to be driven cold, but a few spots closer tonight and he can steamroll to victory.
Selections: 7-4-3-9-5
7. Taumutu Lad (7) J: Sarah O’Reilly 02229T: Sarah O’Reilly
He’ll keep trucking all day long Whyamihere (8) and while he won’t win them in a row, he’ll never really run a bad race. He just needs a good tempo up ahead and he can work his way into the action and keep grinding down his opposition. Should really win this on his recent efforts.
Selections: 8-1-5-7-6
8. Whyamihere (8) J: Jim Curtin 88528T: Bruce Hutton
Comes up north after a strong run of form down in the deep south and there’s no reason why Aveross Majesty (1) can’t make the most of the opportunity. Lands on the front tape and if able to ping away and stay handy on the markers, still has the speed to reel this field in late.
Selections: 1-8-14-5-13
1. Aveross Majesty (1) J: Carter Dalgety 34434T: Denis O’Connell
A wee slide back in grade for Mystery Beach (8) here tonight and he should be primed to make the most of it. Can really ping the stands and it would be no surprise to see him land in front here and look to control things. Going good enough to win and has the right man in the bike to make it happen.
Selections: 8-3-5-2-9
8. Mystery Beach (8) J: Blair Orange 46463T: Mark Jones
Two very impressive victories in the last two performances from Kotare Rimu (3) and looks primed to make it another here tonight. Dour and tough pacer who won’t mind a dog fight and if he can get onto the speed and stay there then they’ll do well to run him down.
Selections: 3-1-2-5-7
8. Commander Joe (8) J: Hayden Douglas 71078T: Kevin Fairbairn
Mathematically it was impossible for Midnight Diamond (14) to win last time out and a late gallop showed she’s still got a few kinks to iron out. This race here should suit her though. Can sit off a good tempo and get rolling when she likes and she’ll have too much class for most, if not all.
Selections: 14-4-3-13-9
14. Midnight Diamond (14) J: Riley Harrison 47×19T: Robert & Jenna Dunn
Not bad last time out in a pretty good field from Tact Teva (3) and he’s really raced himself into a nice wee spot of form. Good draw here against a small field and can sit off the speed and have the final say or take bad luck out of the equation, either way it doesn’t really matter.
Selections: 3-2-4-1-6
3. Tact Teva (3) J: Tim Williams 26113T: Steve & Amanda Telfer
