Matt Markham gives his best in all races at Cambridge Harness on Friday 17 July.
Nice wee slide back in grade here for Another Collect (10) compared to some of the recent assignments and looks pretty well placed. A little luck needed early from the barrier now with a scratching to the inside, but clear air at the right time and should be too good for this field.
Selections: 10-8-1-7-6
10. Another Collect (2) J: Brooke Wilkins 63308T: Barry Purdon & Scott Phelan
Really good effort first up in the north from Tatanka (9) here last time. Will pick up a maiden pretty quickly on that given the winner looks a pretty smart one. Manners were good that night and a repeat here will be enough to see a victory unfold.
Selections: 9-5-7-1-11
9. Tatanka (9) J: Andre Poutama 2×2T: Scott Dickson
A nice return to form last time here from Evernden (2) when finishing second behind the capable On The Mark. Finds a similar kind of set up here tonight and with a bit of luck early and a nice trip in transit, should be having the final say here and saluting.
Selections: 2-3-1-9-10
2. Evernden (2) J: Logan Hollis 59972T: Logan Hollis & Shane Robertson
The reliability of Patrick Mahomes (9) tips the scales firmly in his favour tonight. Bit of work to do early to get into the right kind of spot, but a couple of scratchings limit the task. Going well and with his usual good manners should be right there fighting out the finish.
Selections: 9-10-5-3-1
9. Patrick Mahomes (9) J: Peter Ferguson 32123T: Peter & Vaughan Blanchard
Some really nice runs from Bettor Be Special (4) lately without a whole lot of luck and largely in very good fields. Has gate speed and will look to use it tonight and if able to find the markers and get the right kind of trip would be very hard to beat in this.
Selections: 4-6-9-3-1
4. Bettor Be Special (4) J: Josh Dickie 55745T: Derek & Neita Balle
Two really good runs from Whatever It Takes (5) since resuming from a spell and should really only be reaching full peak fitness now. Has always been a capable trotter and the manner in which this campaign has started suggests we might be ready to finally see it in action. No doubt victory can unfold here.
Selections: 5-8-6-4-9
5. Whatever It Takes (5) J: Maurice McKendry 77×16T: Jeremy Young
With a beautiful trip last time out, Olympic Ko (3) was always going to be hard to beat and made the most of the opportunity too. Can go on with, there’s a fair motor there. Should get into a nice spot from the draw tonight and with a bit of luck at the right time can sneak through and win again at a nice price.
Selections: 3-6-2-12-10
3. Olympic Ko (3) J: Sailesh Abernethy 66×21T: Peter & Vaughan Blanchard
Nice return to winning form here two weeks ago from Mad Mary (12) and she did it with a bit of authority too. Wouldn’t be surprised to see her repeat the effort tonight either, even from a trickier set up early. Stable/driver are flying and pays to follow them everywhere.
Selections: 12-8-5-11-10
12. Mad Mary (4) J: Crystal Hackett x3401T: Michelle Wallis & Bernie Hackett
A big winner two starts back, Kings Watch (6) was effectively taken out of play last time out by the barrier draw. In here a bit better and might look to take bad luck out of the equation and get onto the speed. Very hard to run down when in front with own terms at a huge price.
Selections: 6-1-8-3-5
6. Kings Watch (6) J: Todd Mitchell 44210T: Todd Mitchell
An encouraging return to the races from Paramount Spur (1) up at Auckland and it came in a pretty good field too. Should find this a little easier and gets a chance to jump and run here and put a bit of pressure on some key rivals off back marks. Much better chance than the price reflects.
Selections: 1-8-9-10-7
1. Paramount Spur (1) J: Josh Dickie 610×4T: John Dickie
Desperately unlucky when last produced here a fortnight ago, The Last Yarn (4) had plenty to offer, but nowhere to go for the entirety of the straight. Can turn that around here though from a good draw and with a clean shot at them is a big chance of victory.
Selections: 4-8-5-2-9
4. The Last Yarn (4) J: Andre Poutama 64163T: Arna Donnelly
