NRL Women Tips & Preview | Round 6

• Nick Tedeschi
We are halfway through the NRLW season this week and while the three premiership front-runners are all big favourites, we have some cracking matchups led by the hot local derby between the Dragons and Sharks.   St. George-Illawarra Dragons vs Cronulla Sharks 2:45pm, Saturday | Jubilee Stadium, Sydney Cronulla -3.5 ($1.90) The Dragons have been completely gutted by injury with Margot Vella, Raecene McGregor, Alice Gregory, Trinity Taunaei and Nita Maynard-Perrin joining Teagan Berry, Indie Bostock and Bobbie Law on the sidelines. There are far too many outs to be even remotely competitive in this game. The Sharks have been woefully…

Evan Psarras previews Round 23 of the 2025 NRL Premiership. Melbourne Storm vs Brisbane Broncos 9:50pm, Thursday | AAMI Park, Melbourne Storm -5.5 ($1.85) It is difficult to get a gauge on their respective wins in Round 20. The Storm managed to get a late winner against the Eels despite playing poorly while the Broncos thumped an injury-riddled Rabbitohs side. Trent Loiero returns for the Storm after being rested last week as does Asofa-Solomona who has served his suspension but the duo of Hughes and Faalogo remain sidelined with injury. Payne Haas was a late out for the Broncos last…

The patched-up Warriors had their hearts broken 20-18 by the Dolphins in a potentially damaging result to their top-four hopes, conceding a last-minute try at Mount Smart Stadium. Missing top-liners Wayde Egan, Chanel Harris-Tavita, James Fisher-Harris and Demetric Vaimauga on top of long-term injured group Mitch Barnett, Luke Metcalf, Rocco Berry and Ali Leiataua, the Warriors were on course for a famous rearguard win after clawing from 16-6 down to cling to a two-point lead until the dying seconds. Statistically, the Warriors laid a platform for victory. The hosts enjoyed 52 percent possession, completed at 83 percent to the Dolphins’…

Evan Psarras previews Round 22 of the 2025 NRL Premiership. Parramatta Eels vs Melbourne Storm 9:50pm, Thursday | CommBank Stadium, Sydney Under 47.5 points ($1.90) Mitchell Moses engineered an upset win over the Broncos last week with Zac Lomax also prominent in the victory. The same 17 have been assigned the task of causing another upset but the Storm showed just how resilient they are. Despite Jahrome Hughes leaving the field with a shoulder injury, Harry Grant single-handedly carried them to victory over the Roosters. The duo of Papenhuyzen and Munster return with Wishart to partner the Maroons captain in…

NRL Women Tips & Preview | Round 5

The inaugural NRLW Magic Round is upon us with Newcastle set to rock with six games of women’s footy action. The Saturday is highlighted by the Broncos-Sharks clash while the Eels-Dragons clash on Sunday looks a ripper. Gold Coast Titans Women vs Canterbury Bulldogs Women 2:15pm, Saturday | McDonald Jones Stadium, Newcastle Canterbury +2.5 ($1.90) It is surprising to see the Titans favoured here. They are still missing a ton of talent and not sure a win over the Warriors and one over the Tigers holds up so well. Canterbury won their first two, nearly rolled the Dragons and had…

The Warriors are reeling after a crucial 24-16 home loss to the bottom-placed Gold Coast Titans, blowing a gift-wrapped opportunity to pull five points clear in fourth spot. In a throwback to 2024, the Warriors gave up a double-digit lead for the first time this season – getting out to a 10-0 scoreline after eight minutes before getting overrun by a Titans outfit that beat the hosts at their own game. The battling Titans enjoyed 54 percent possession on the back of an elite 90 percent completion rate (40/44), consequently winning run metres (1,876 to 1,709) and post-contact metres (659…

Evan Psarras previews Round 21 of the 2025 NRL Premiership. Sydney Roosters vs Melbourne Storm 9:50pm, Thursday | Allianz Stadium, Sydney Storm -3.5 ($1.90) The Storm were uncharacteristically complacent against the Sea Eagles last week with 16 errors and a very low 67% completion rate. The 18-16 loss ended their 6-game win streak, and this game marks the beginning of a tough run home where they play the Broncos (twice), Panthers, Bulldogs and the Roosters a second time. Asofa-Solomona will serve a suspension for an elbow and Wishart replaces Munster who has been given time off for his father’s funeral.…

The Warriors got out of jail 20-15 on the road against struggling Newcastle on Sunday afternoon, with teen sensation Leka Halasima producing an out-of-this-world try on the last play of the game to snatch the win. After leading 6-0 early, the Warriors trailed 12-6 at halftime but clawed back to 12-all in the 50th minute and 14-all in the 67th. Knights halfback Jack Cogger’s 74th-minute field goal looked set to consign the Warriors to their first one-point loss since 2022, before Halasima’s heroics saved the day. There was very little between the teams statistically, with the Warriors enjoying narrow advantages…

Evan Psarras previews Round 20 of the 2025 NRL Premiership. Dolphins vs North Queensland Cowboys 9:50pm, Thursday | Suncorp Stadium, Brisbane Over 49.5 points ($1.90) With only 8 points separating 5th and 16th spots on the NRL ladder, things can change dramatically in a matter of weeks. A loss to the Sharks has seen the Dolphins fall to 10th while the Cowboys need a minor miracle if they are to play finals footy following losses in 5 of their last 6. Tabuai-Fidow returns for the Dolphins, but they will have to overcome the losses of Nicholls (concussion) and Finefeuiaki (thumb).…
