Matt Markham has been through the form guide and speed maps and has provided his race analysis and betting strategy for each of the eight races at the Winton Harness meeting on Thursday 3 September below:
One run to the races for a good third behind a handy enough type by Aardie’s Ideal (6). That was up in Canterbury too. Sneaks down south looking for a win and gets a great chance in a small field. Right man in the bike to make it happen too.
Selections: 6-3-1-2-5
6. Aardie’s Ideal (6) J: Blair Orange 3T: Cran & Chrissie Dalgety
Decent slide back in grade for Ward Lamon (2) today after knocking around in some pretty strong races over recent months. Nice draw to use and should take full advantage of it. On the speed throughout he looks a really good each way play at a nice price.
Selections: 2-3-9-8-1
2. Ward Lamon (2) J: Madison Kyle 45367T: Kirk Larsen
All at sea at Gore on Sunday, but Sensitive To A Smile (1) should enjoy getting onto the roomier Winton track. Prior form had been great and anything near to that here will net a winning turn in what isn’t a very strong trotting line up.
Selections: 1-4-9-6-5
1. Sensitive To A Smile (1) J: Blair Orange x7236T: Mark Jones
Strong efforts in good races behind Rajmacknra and Off The Canvas in the last two runs by Mea (2). Finds a very winnable race here today and will jump from a handy draw. Should take bad luck out of the equation and take the bull by the horns.
Selections: 2-3-4-1-7
2. Mea (2) J: Kirstin Green 26634T: Kirstin Green
In and out efforts since resuming from Jaccka Jim (7) but the fourth two starts back was great and in this field anything close to that would be winning. Just needs to find the rhythm early on and stay in the right gait throughout to be the one to beat.
Selections: 7-4-6-1-3
7. Jaccka Jim (7) J: Nathan Williamson px040T: Brett Gray
Smart through the Southern Surge series and went within a whisker of winning the final. Off that back of that, Off The Canvas (4) should be very hard to beat today dropping back in grade a little and up against a small field. His race to lose.
Selections: 4-8-2-5-7
4. Off The Canvas (4) J: Nathan Williamson 6×212T: Nathan Williamson
Really exciting to see Duchess Maria (5) back on track after an injury-enforced lay off. Unbeaten in four starts, she’s got the three-year-old trotting ranks at her mercy and with her high speed, even a lack of race fitness shouldn’t stop her today.
Selections: 5-6-2-1-4
| 5. Duchess Maria (5) Scratched: | |||
Three really good runs since resuming from a spell by Beluga (6) and good natural progression through them as well. Looks ready to strike now and even from the wider draw has a chance to take control of this and make it his own.
Selections: 6-8-2-5-4
6. Beluga (6) J: Craig Ferguson 2×423T: Craig Ferguson
