There is a significant gap between these two players in experience, success, and ranking but all is not lost for Starodoubtseva. After all, her lone win against a top 10 player was against Rybakina earlier this year at the French Open! She came from a set down in that match and prevailed 10-4 in a third set match tiebreaker. Starodoubtseva also came from a set down in her last match to beat Sakkari and has a habit of playing at least one tight set when she takes on higher-ranked opposition. Surprised to see the total this low!

They have been two of the most impressive performers to date but only one can progress to the 4th Round. Swiatek is yet to drop serve in the tournament and has won an incredible 70% of 2nd serve points. Bouzkova is not far behind having been broken just once in four sets played but her history in this matchup suggests she will find it extremely difficult to make any inroads. Swiatek has won all three matches in this series in straight sets including a 6-2 6-3 win at the Australian Open earlier this year. To make matters worse for Bouzkova, she broke serve twice in that match but holding was the issue as she won less than 50% of points on serve. Has difficulty handling Swiatek’s spin and does not have the lateral movement required to defend out of the corners.

As expected Osaka was pushed to a deciding set by Siniakova but was superior when she was able to find her best tennis. That is something she did from the opening point a few weeks ago in Toronto against Mertens. She won 85% of points behind her 1st serve and won 55% of return points for the match! Osaka has won 6 of her last 8 meetings against Mertens and has consistently been able to overpower the Belgian. This will be another case of Mertens cruising through the early rounds against lower-ranked opposition and running into a brick wall once she faces a seeded player. Cannot see her turning things around from that poor showing in Toronto.
