Avondale hosts a seven-race program on Wednesday, with the track rated a Heavy10 and the rail in the true position. Clear conditions are forecast for Auckland on Wednesday, which may see the track improve towards a Heavy9 at best.
Selections for each of the seven races below:
Sacred Sin (#3) is a 3yo son of Zed who has been building nicely this campaign, culminating in a nice effort for 6th at Tauranga last start, an effort that possibly reads as the superior guide in a moderate maiden field. Despite that he is yet to place in seven starts, this looks the most winnable race he has lined up in to date. Should be thereabouts in what is a very moderate lineup for this Amateur Riders race.
3. Sacred Sin (7) J: Lisa Kennedy 68.5kg 6X096T: Nicholas Bishara
She’s A Boss (#4) didn’t fire at Ellerslie last start, where she was slow away and never got into the race. She looks suited getting back on to a genuine Heavy track here, given she looked to relish the testing conditions when winning her maiden on a Heavy10 at Matamata three starts back. Craig Grylls staying aboard looks a big positive and he should have her settling back in the field from her wide draw before looking to get home strongly late.
4. She’s A Boss (6) J: George Rooke 56.5kg 7138T: W Hillis & R Cole
Capote (#1) heads here fourth-up, last sighted running a game race for 4th at Ellerslie behind Kusuda Rush last month. With Sam Collett now aboard from the inside gate, he’s likely to be ridden positively from the outset and should be able to position up on speed throughout. He had no issues getting through the Heavy conditions in his resuming run this campaign and should cope with the conditions again here. Looks to find a winnable maiden.
1. Capote (1) J: Samantha Collett 58.5kg 6X334T: Brent Gillovic
Forester (#1) was doing his best work late at Tauranga last start, closing off strongly from the back of the field into 4th. He comes here on the fresh side six weeks between runs, which is a slight query given he is untried on a testing Heavy track. However, he is drawn to be out in the best part of the track from the wide draw and gains the services of a strong rider in George Rooke for this. Should be going close if he copes with the conditions.
1. Forester (7) J: George Rooke 57.5kg 8424T: Annabelle Johnson
Atlanta Gold (#9) comes here off a luckless 8th at Te Rapa last start, where she was shut out of a gap with 200m to run and wasn’t really tested thereafter. The prospect of another Heavy track looks ideal, as much of her better earlier form came on Heavy tracks. She slides back in grade for this and finds a very winnable race as a consequence. She’s drawn to be mounting her run in the best part of the track under Masa Hashizume and should take some beating.
9. Atlanta Gold (9) J: Masa Hashizume 57.5kg 50788T: Allan Morley
Just Go Boom (#3) only battled on from the back into 9th last start at Ellerslie, where he never looked likely that day. He should be better for that run under his belt now heading here fourth-up. Sam Collett aboard from the low draw may see him ridden much more positively, where she should be looking to plot a path away from the fence early. Can run a vastly improved race in a maiden of this strength if he copes with the conditions.
3. Just Go Boom (2) J: Samantha Collett 58.5kg 9X559T: Brent Gillovic
Sacred Combatant (#6) was finding the line well before running out of room late at Te Aroha last start, finishing into 8th. Despite what that result suggested on paper numerically, he ran a much better race than his prior efforts on firmer tracks, and looks suited again by the prospect of another Heavy track here. He looks suited coming here on the much quicker turnaround, whilst the additional 200m only plays into his hands here also. He looks a great each-way chance to close the card.
6. Sacred Combatant (7) J: Sam McNab 57.5kg 60008T: Bruce Wallace & Grant Cooksley
