Matt Markham gives his best in all races at Palmerston North Harness on Thursday 30 April.
Fresh legs to the meeting after skipping Tuesday night, Merle Mary (9) comes south boasting some strong formlines from further up the island and is yet to really run a bad race in the career. A nice run through from the second row here and she’ll be in the right places to launch an attack on this assignment.
Selections: 9-6-13-12-3
9. Merle Mary (2) J: Crystal Hackett 64435T: Andrew & Lyn Neal
Copped a wide draw here on Tuesday but was doing his best work late in the piece was Mr Miki (3). In a great space at the moment and from the good draw here today he should be able to land a lot closer to the speed and be out and rolling earlier too. His race to lose.
Selections: 3-8-4-6-5
3. Mr Miki (3) J: Sailesh Abernethy 81133T: Brendon Laidlaw
As tough as a pair of old boots here on Tuesday night after being trapped three wide for a long way, Dave Duley (4) should be able to find a spot a lot closer to the markers a whole lot easier tonight. Mammoth in defeat and would only have to replicate that here to be the one to beat.
Selections: 2-5-3-2-7
4. Dave Duley (4) J: Peter Ferguson 67462T: Robert & Jenna Dunn
Nice type Dark Ghana (2) kicks off a new campaign for a new stable here tonight and expect decent things from him here up in the North Island. A change in scenery might be just what’s needed to turn his form right around and when he’s right, he’s very good and has shown that in far better Canterbury fields than this.
Selections: 2-9-7-5-1
2. Dark Ghana (2) J: Lyn Neal 90676T: Andrew & Lyn Neal
Super effort chasing off the handicap here on Tuesday from Melton Mogul (8) and the extra distance of tonight’s assignment should be right up his alley. Great away from the stand so expect him to settle in front of a few rivals early and from there should be the one to beat.
Selections: 8-1-3-7-5
8. Melton Mogul (8) J: Andre Poutama 11632T: Scott Dickson
More than a few punters will be smarting after he was beaten at a $1.20 quote here on Day One, but Critical Image (8) gets a chance to atone. This is actually easier than what he faced two days ago and even from the wide draw he really should be saluting tonight.
Selections: 8-2-5-7-1
8. Critical Image (1) J: Andre Poutama 46772T: Arna Donnelly
Jumping out of some much stronger races further up the island, Trifolium (2) looks really well placed here tonight. Just needs to get the standing start right but if that challenge is handled and we’re in front and bowling along then it’ll take a good effort to run him down here in his easiest assignment for a while.
Selections: 2-6-5-8-7
2. Trifolium (2) J: Lyn Neal 23347T: Andrew & Lyn Neal
