Matt Markham gives his best in all races at Westport Harness on Sunday 28 December.
Fresh legs to the meeting having missed Friday, Whyamihere (9) jumps straight out of a Harness 5000 final a week ago for this. Very brave then too, running a bold fourth after doing plenty of work. Wide draw to contend with but has the game to overcome it in this line up.
Selections: 9-8-4-3-11
9. Whyamihere (9) J: Jim Curtin 2×044T: Bruce Hutton
Dropping back a grade to a race with maidens, Signal Hill (6) can turn the form around here. Two runs prior to Boxing Day were pretty good in decent fields and looked a chance before galloping on Friday. Needs a clean round and a good beginning but a decent hope for sure.
Selections: 6-1-4-3-7
6. Signal Hill (1) J: Samantha Ottley 00658T: Bruce Hutton
Tidy run off the second row draw on Day One from The Gangster (3), he’s building nicely toward a maiden win with two strong efforts in his last two. Swings onto the front row today which can be of huge help to his chances and if he lands on the speed he might out tough them.
Selections: 3-12-1-6-10
3. The Gangster (3) J: Samantha Ottley 053T: Margo Nyhan
One of a few thwarted by a false start on Friday, Captain Publisher (3) got it wrong in the second attempt after making a flyer the first time. Generally pretty good from a stand and might jump and run here. If he lands on the speed and can control things, he’ll win this.
Selections: 3-6-10-4-8
3. Captain Publisher (3) J: Sam Thornley 80226T: Sam Thornley
Wanted to do a bit wrong on Day One but Treasure Cove (1) will be better for the outing. Lands the inside draw here and if able to hold up and do things right then should get things own way and best version will be very hard to beat.
Selections: 1-6-10-4-5
1. Treasure Cove (1) J: Tim Williams 09457T: Steve & Amanda Telfer
Won with a leg in the air on Friday and in the form he’s currently found, Jasprit Trouble (12) can definitely go back-to-back. Manners are good and is finding the line with real purpose. Just needs to navigate the traffic but looks the hardest to beat.
Selections: 12-10-4-6-1
12. Jasprit Trouble (3) J: Riley Harrison 22211T: Michael Heenan
Got caught out on a limb three wide for a long way on the first day after showing little interest when she got up outside the leaders but Elektra King (12) is way better than that and if in the right mood here today should be able to atone.
Selections: 13-11-12-10-1
13. Elektra King (4) J: Tim Williams 48946T: Steve & Amanda Telfer
In the zone and racing like a real star at the moment, Flying Bird (3) won for fun here on Friday. Steps up in grade to the Country Cup level, but seems to relish the dogfights and if she was to step onto the lead here early and control things, they might not catch her again.
Selections: 3-4-7-6-1
3. Flying Bird (1) J: Samantha Ottley 12411T: Matt Purvis
Continued a great love affair with Westport with yet another win here on Friday and the manner in which victory came suggests that Premium Player (6) can do the same again. Pretty good from the stand and should land close to the leaders early. From there can warm right into it late.
Selections: 6-5-7-4-3
6. Premium Player (1) J: John Dunn 42031T: Gavin Smith
Brave effort on Friday from Troubleshooter (10) who did a little work early to find the lead and was brave to the line. She might be better coming from off the speed and gets the chance to do that today from the second row draw. WIll be charging at them late.
Selections: 10-1-5-2-6
10. Troubleshooter (10) J: Sarah O’Reilly 18052T: Michael Heenan
