Matt Markham gives his best in all races at Oamaru on Thursday 27 November.
Manners and experience might just tip the scales in favour of Morrie Afton (4) here today. Has already shown good stand start manners and with runs under the belt gets the edge on rivals who are still learning the game. Hard to beat.
Selections: 4-1-7-2-3
4. Morrie Afton (0) J: John Morrison 80333T: Michael Heenan
There have been plenty of chances for Vin’s Deal (10) to break the maiden ranks but few better than this one. Major step back from some of the maiden fields that have been faced and staying out of it all early and then looping into it might be the key to success.
Selections: 10-5-6-3-8
10. Vin’s Deal (10) J: Gavin Smith 82526T: Matt Purvis
Probably no doubting that Snooowgood (9) is the best horse in the race, but her manners can certainly leave a little to be desired at times. Needs to catch things on the right foot today and if she does she’ll win. But $1.95 is a short price to play on hope.
Selections: 9-3-7-8-2
9. Snooowgood (0) J: Sarah O’Reilly 4p204T: Brent & Tim White
Not a lot has gone right in the last few starts by Molly Maeve Estelle (1) but the high speed is there to make her a player today from the good draw. Her run two starts back for third at Addington would be good enough to win this and it’s a nice each way price to find out.
Selections: 1-7-11-8-10
1. Molly Maeve Estelle (1) J: Sarah O’Reilly x1938T: Brent & Tim White
He’s got a few tricks up the sleeve but Bannockburn (4) also has a bit of a motor. Won a grass track trial nicely over the weekend to ready for this and if he finds the front then he’ll take plenty of catching in this line up.
Selections: 4-8-7-6-1
4. Bannockburn (4) J: Henry Sail x2172T: Aaron Swain
The form of Bettor Belle (2) over the last month might not read all that great but when you look at what she’s been racing it makes a little more sense. Massive drop back in grade here and from the good draw should be able to roll to the lead and dominate today.
Selections: 2-7-3-8-1
2. Bettor Belle (2) J: Gavin Smith x3850T: Cran & Chrissie Dalgety
Super run in the South Of The Waitaki race on Show Day from the fresh up Cracker Opie (7) was going his best work late. Better for that run and even from the wide draw here should be able to bring himself into play at some stage and go close.
Selections: 7-9-4-1-5
7. Cracker Opie (7) J: Riley Harrison 818×3T: Craig Ferguson
Exceptional stand start manners and a decent slide down from recent opposition all points towards Vertigo (6) having a big role to play. She’s won 11 races and even off the 20m handicap should be up with the leaders early. That puts her right in play.
Selections: 6-4-10-7-1
6. Vertigo (2) J: Riley Harrison x6450T: Lawrence McCormick
With the benefit of a run under the belt, expect a much sharper Sidorova (2) to step out here today on the home track. Was in and around the action behind some nice types last campaign and if able to find that form quickly will go close today.
Selections: 2-4-11-9-10
2. Sidorova (2) J: Matthew Williamson 366×5T: Matthew Williamson
