A wonderful bet to start the day. There’s arguably not a trotting mare in the country going as well as she is at the moment and if she can get around them at the right time and land on the speed then she’s going to prove awfully hard to stop as she chases five in a row.

No luck when left sitting parked on Tuesday but Secret Agent Man (10) will rely on a different kind of luck from the barrier today. No doubt he’s the best horse in the race but he’ll need to be and need that gap to appear at the right time to get the job done.

Of the current crop of 2YO’s racing, Kyvalley Ray (5) looks the top of the pile at the moment. Big win last time out and has ticked over with a trial as well since then. Primed for this and if the manners are there then he’s going awfully close to taking this out.

Taking a line out of the third two starts back behind Hadron Collider, that version of Semba (11) would be winning here. Not bad at Kaikoura last time, but better that prior start. Draw works out OK as out of the early rush and with a bit of luck can have the final word in this.

Exciting Australian filly Tracy The Jet (3) from the Larajay Farm team and brings exceptional form with her. A real excitement machine. She should work to the front at some point and keep pressing on and it’s going to take a good performance to run her down.

Charging through the line late on Tuesday behind It’s Tough and Sideshow Bruce, Double Jeopardy (13) should enjoy a nice slide down in grade here today. Has some work to do from the draw but is superior to almost all of his rivals and without any bad luck he’s the horse to beat.

The best version of Gold Bullion (15) should be a $2 favourite in this line up, but he’s more heartbreak than joy at the moment. More than capable of mixing it with the best trotters in the land but needs things to go his way. Nice chance here to turn things around and looks well placed.

Well served at the preferential barrier draw, Mantra Blue (8) looks well placed here. Gets a chance to slide forward early and hold up a good position and if she’s able to run anywhere near to her best then she’s the horse they’ll all need to beat today.

A big barrier draw advantage on some of her key rivals gives War Cry (2) all the cards to play here. Has been very good in two runs down here in Canterbury and was excellent in particular at Ashburton when third. Gets her chance to hold a forward spot here and be right there at the finish.

One of the unlucky runners in Tuesday’s Dominion, Jilliby Ballerini (6) can get redemption here. Loves a short course mobile assignment and while she might not blast to the lead early, she should get there at some stage and ramp it up and run them off their feet.

A couple of significant gear changes and a good barrier draw put Marketplace (2) in the right place to win this year’s Velocity. He’ll lead and look to stay there and if he can get up on the job and bowl along then they’ll need everything they’ve got to beat him today.

Beaten by one of the most freakish performances seen in a NZ Trotting Cup on Tuesday, Leap To Fame (8) lost no admirers in his effort for second. Set up beautifully here behind the mobile and with the front line draw. He’ll work to the front and not look back.

Off the back of his demolition job at Kaikoura, The Lazarus Effect (3) steps out here and will be on everyone’s tickets. Exciting pacer with a big challenge ahead of him in seven days, but gets a front line draw with his biggest rivals off the back row. That puts him in front and hard to beat.
