2026 San Domenico Stakes Day Tips & Preview (Rosehill) | Saturday 29 August

2026 San Domenico Stakes Day Tips & Preview (Rosehill) | Saturday 29 August

The action returns to Rosehill Gardens this Saturday, August 29th and the three-year-olds take centre stage.

With one eye on next month’s Golden Rose, both the San Domenico Stakes and the Up And Coming Stakes have drawn classy fields, and both races will provide us with a better idea of which horses to follow into the Group 1 features of the Spring Carnival.

Read on for our Rosehill tip sheet, including 2026 San Domenico Stakes best bets.

Rosehill Race 1
3 Doradus

Having returned to action to finish second, beaten just over half a length in BM68 company, Doradus enjoyed good improvement into an easy BM72 win at Canterbury last time out. Fitter third-up and out to the 1800m, something like this looks the next logical target for him.

Rosehill R1 – Midway Hcp (Bm72)
Open Race time:
3. Doradus (11)
J: Zac Lloyd 57kg
24×21T: John P Thompson
Third-up today and won third-up in the past. First-up 2nd of 12 in a Cond Bm68 at Wyong on July 23 over 1350m, slow going 0.7 len behind Sponars with 56.5kg at $4.80. Second-up favourite; won by 2 len at Canterbury on August 5 over 1550m defeating Conchiero with 55kg at $3.80. Won’t get the same picnic in front but is progressive and keeps Lloyd.

Rosehill Race 2
5 Xtreme

Xtreme has been a model of consistency for Paul Snowden since moving up to Port Macquarie, winning two and placing a further six times in his ten trips to the races so far. Having returned to action to only just miss over 1300m here a fortnight ago, he strips fitter and looks perfectly placed to go one better.

Rosehill R2 – Buy Your Kosciuszko Tickets At Tab Highway Hcp (C2)
Open Race time:
5. Xtreme (4)
J: Regan Bayliss 58kg
212×2T: Paul Snowden
Second-up. First-up after four months 2nd of 16 in a Highway-C3 at this track on August 15 over 1300m, slow going neck behind Lyon with 55kg at $15. Previously second-up 2nd in a small field in a Super Mdn at Coffs Harbour on February 15 over 1200m, on heavy track; 1.1 len behind Jade Trees carrying 59kg at $3.80. Good fresh and is right in the mix with natural improvement.

Rosehill Race 3
3 Aethelwulf
Tip of The Day

Aethelwulf gets a deserved crack at Saturday metro company this week. The Saxon Warrior gelding has been nothing short of outstanding since resuming, winning three of four runs back, highlighted by a five-length triumph over 1900m at Canterbury earlier this month. He’s been kept up to the mark with a trial since that race, 2000m looks perfect for him, and a repeat of that latest performance would be good enough for him to be saluting again this week.

Rosehill R3 – Merrylands RSL Hcp (Bm78)
Open Race time:
3. Aethelwulf (4)
J: Zac Lloyd 58kg
x1511T: Matthew Smith
Chasing a hat-trick. Last start favourite; tracked the speed and boxed on steadily; scored a big 5 len win at Canterbury on August 5 over 1900m defeating Forbidden Riff carrying 58kg at $1.26. The run before that favourite; came from midfield and scored a big 6 len win at Kembla Grange on July 16 over 1600m defeating Arizona Loner with 60kg at $1.55. Plenty of hype around him, so stable will see this as a stepping stone.

Rosehill Race 4
5 Avista

Having returned to action with an easy victory over 1300m up at Scone, Avista hasn’t taken a backwards step, adding further wins in BM66 company at Muswellbrook and BM72 company at Randwick to her CV. In peak order this week, I can’t find a reason why she won’t be in the finish again.

Rosehill R4 – Mounties Group Hcp (Bm78)
Open Race time:
5. Avista (6)
J: Braith Nock 56.5kg
1×111T: Paul Messara & Leah Gavranich
Racing well recently. Last start favourite; won by a nose at Randwick on August 8 over 1400m in soft going defeating Mind Ya Bizz carrying 56.5kg at $2.25. The start before that favourite; settled well back; scored a big 4.5 len win at Muswellbrook on July 26 over 1500m defeating Hinune with 59kg at $1.16. Can only beat what’s in front of you and she continues to do just that.

Rosehill Race 5
2 Mr Miller

Mr Miller stamped himself as one to follow by winning on debut at Warwick Farm in April and was tipped out after a couple of near misses in strong races at Randwick and Gosford. Having trialled up fairly, he justified a huge go in the market when kicking clear to easily win a BM72 sprint at Warwick Farm a couple of weeks ago, and with natural improvement and from a perfect draw this week, he can go on with it.

Rosehill R5 – Bankstown Sports Hcp (Bm78)
Open Race time:
2. Mr Miller (4)
J: Tommy Berry 58.5kg
122×1T: Chris Waller
Second-up. First-up after three months favourite; tracked the speed and boxed on steadily; won by 2.5 len at Warwick Farm on August 19 over 1400m in soft going defeating Sociable with 59kg at $1.28. Previously second-up 2nd of 10 in a 3&4yo Bm72 at Randwick on April 25 over 1400m, 1.75 len behind Enamorada with 55.5kg at $5.50. The one to beat based on that latest effort. Promising gelding on his way through.

Rosehill Race 6
1 She’s An Artist

She’s An Artist hasn’t been seen at the races since March, but she has been a strong and consistent performer in races not dissimilar since debuting, and was a winner at this point of her last two preps. With the benefit of a couple of trials under her belt, she’s drawn to effect and can hit the ground running.

Rosehill R6 – Campbelltown Catholic Club Hcp (Bm78)
Open Race time:
1. She’s An Artist (5)
J: Braith Nock 59.5kg
x126xT: Ciaron Maher
Back from a spell. Finished off last preparation sixth of 8 at Flemington Mares Hcp March 28 over 1100m, in the wet; 3 len behind Pop Award with 54kg at $2.10. Previous preparation first-up favourite; won by nose Caulfield Heath Bm78 February 9 over 1100m defeating Excess with 58kg at $1.50. Frustrating mare but clearly has her share of ability.

Rosehill Race 7
11 Savvy Diamond

Savvy Diamond hit the line to record a comfortable victory in maiden company when resuming at Goulburn earlier this month, while she was tossed in the deep end here at Rosehill Gardens last time out, but only just denied by the talented Steel Will. With the benefit of that run under her belt as well, sticking to the 1300m suits, and she gets into the race well with just 53kgs in tow.

Rosehill R7 – C’bry-Hurlstone Park Rsl Up And Coming Stakes G3
Open Race time:
11. Savvy Diamond (10)
J: Rachel King 53kg
12T: Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott
Raced twice to date. When well in the market at debut, won by 1.0 len at Goulburn on August 3 over 1100m defeating Stronghold carrying 55kg at $4.80. Second-up ran on from midfield; 2nd of 7 in a 3yo Bm72 at this track on August 15 over 1300m, neck behind Steel Will with 52kg at $13. Is another of the Waterhouse/Bott’s that will get a good look on speed.

Rosehill Race 8
4 Warwoven

We haven’t seen Warwoven at the races since March, but he was outstanding during his two-year-old season, winning three of five starts, including the Pago Pago Stakes, while he was last seen finishing sixth in a Golden Slipper. Two recent trial performances add further confidence, and he returns to action a bigger and strong horse. This is an outstanding San Domenico Stakes field, but Warwoven gets plenty of ticks and in my opinion, he can draw first blood.

Rosehill R8 – Smithfield Rsl San Domenico Stakes (G3)
Open Race time:
4. Warwoven (8)
J: Rachel King 57kg
1416xT: Bjorn Baker
Resuming. Finished off last campaign sixth of 16 at this track in the G1 G Slipper March 21 over 1200m, soft track; 3 len behind Guest House carrying 56.5kg at $8.50. At his first start won by 2.25 len Randwick 2yo SW December 20 over 1000m defeating Norman’s Cay carrying 57kg at $3.40. Stamped himself as a smart colt in debut prep and looks to have come on nicely.

Rosehill Race 9
1 Run Harry Run

He attracted good support in the market ahead his return to racing in last month’s Mildura Cup, while Run Harry Run was last seen making it two wins on the bounce over this route earlier this month. He’s another one that has been kept up to the mark with a nice trial between races, and Tim Clark can have him in a nice position in the run from barrier 3.

Rosehill R9 – Wests Group Macarthur Hcp (Bm100)
Open Race time:
1. Run Harry Run (3)
J: Tim Clark 60kg
40×11T: Ben, Will & Jd Hayes
Dual acceptor. Third-up today and won third-up previously. Resuming favourite; raced right near the speed and boxed on; won by a long-neck in the Mildura Cup on July 17 over 1400m defeating Black Storm carrying 59kg at $3.70. Last start favourite; won by a nose at this track on August 1 over 1500m on a rain affected track defeating Narbold with 58kg at $3. Impossible to knock and will go well again.

Rosehill Race 10
2 Grand Impact

While yet to strike in two wins back form a break, Grand Impact has already found competitive performer in finishing the runner up in both the July Sprint and a BM94 contest, both here at Rosehill. With further improvement here and drawn perfectly, he might not get a better chance in Saturday metro company.

Rosehill R10 – Clubsnsw Hcp (Bm94)
Open Race time:
2. Grand Impact (5)
J: Zac Lloyd 59.5kg
60×22T: Mick Price & Michael Kent Jnr
Third-up today and placed third-up in the past. Resuming sat on the pace when 2nd of 7 in a July Sprint at this track on July 18 over 1100m, on heavy track; 2.25 len behind Roselyn’s Star carrying 54.5kg at $20. Second-up 2nd of 8 in a Bm94 at this track on August 15 over 1200m, on a slow track; neck behind Eagle Express carrying 57.5kg at $8. Building nicely and is sure to give a good sight with Lloyd taking over.
