It took some time for Alcaraz to find his range but after losing the opening set against Faria he won 18 of the next 23 games. His upcoming battle against Wu will be a sterner test – especially when you consider the form of his opponent and their lone prior meeting. Medvedev made mince meat of Gorzny as expected but he will face genuine resistance against Rinderknech. They met here in 2022 with Medvedev winning in straight sets but the Frenchman did even the ledger with a win in Shanghai late last year. Rinderknech has thundered down 37 aces through two matches played and although those numbers will be down here as Medvedev stays 5-8 metres behind the baseline to return serve, he will be afforded the opportunity to dominate rallies on serve with his first groundstroke. Not only win Rinderknech win a set but he is a chance of claiming an outright win.

The H2H may read 4-0 in the favour of Shelton but he has dominant in any of their prior battles. He needed five sets to get past Shapovalov at Wimbledon in 2024 and a month later they played two tiebreakers with the Canadian being disqualified when three match points down in the second set. Their most recent battle in Dallas earlier this year also went the distance with Shelton winning a third set breaker 7-4. Lefty v lefty battles are very rare and it is evident that Shelton is not as effective against his fellow left hander. Surprised to see the total this low and believe it should be up around the 40.5 games mark.

We have seen a mini resurgence from Tsitsipas since Mouratoglou joined him as his full-time coach. There has been an improvement in his service games and his transition into net including the win over Harris where he won 30 of 40 net points. Lehecka poses a very different problem in this match as he is very good defensively off both wings which will make it difficult for Tsitsipas to get on top. The Czech has won the last two meetings between them in straight sets with Tsitsipas a combined 7 of 14 in net points across those two matches. That emphasises just how different this match will be and with respect to point construction, Tsitsipas will not be able to get around his backhand to dominate with the forehand as often as he’d like.
