We have Spring Champion Stakes tips and predictions for the Group 1 2000m race at Randwick on Saturday.
Spring Champion Stakes odds have Global Goal as the current favourite, and she will be tough to beat in the $2 million feature.
Global Goal looks the one to beat in the Spring Champion Stakes after an impressive win in the Group 1 Flight Stakes over 1600m. The John Sargent-trained filly has been building nicely throughout the spring, recording a win and two third-place finishes from her last three starts.
Her latest victory showed she can handle pressure against quality opposition, and the step up to 2000m looks a promising move if she settles well. Dylan Gibbons takes the ride from barrier 3, giving her a great chance to find a comfortable position just behind the speed before making her move late.
She’s in winning form, has a handy draw, and looks ready for another big performance at Group 1 level, so put her on top with Spring Champion Stakes predictions.

| Form hard to fault. Most recently won by a long-neck in the G1 Flight Stakes at this track on October 3 over 1600m on a soft track defeating De Armas carrying 56kg at $3.30. Before that 3rd of 9 in the G2 Tea Rose Stakes at this track on September 19 over 1400m, 1.1 len behind Bangkok Hottie with 56kg at $7.50. Should eat up the extra 400m and looks the one to roll again. | |||
Proxima Dea is impossible to ignore heading into the Spring Champion Stakes, with four wins from four career starts.
The David Payne-trained filly has quickly made a name for herself, and her latest victory came in the Group 3 Gloaming Stakes over 1800m, where she held off Wonka by a neck.
That was a tough performance, and she showed plenty of fight when challenged late. The extra 200m is another test, but her determination and ability to keep finding the line suggest she’ll handle the distance well.
Zac Lloyd takes the ride from barrier 9. The draw isn’t ideal, so he’ll need to get the timing right, but her unbeaten record makes her a serious contender at $5.50.

| Form hard to fault. Last start favourite; came from midfield and won by a neck in the G3 Gloaming Stakes at Rosehill on October 10 over 1800m defeating Wonka carrying 54.5kg at $4. The run before that favourite; ran on from midfield and won by a nose in a Midway Bm72(70) at Rosehill on August 29 over 1800m in soft going defeating Doradus carrying 53kg at $4. Looked down and out last time – a filly of considerable staying talent. | |||
Wonka looks a solid value option at double-figure odds. The Chris Waller-trained colt has been racing consistently this preparation, and his latest second in the Gloaming Stakes showed he’s right in the mix for this race.
He finished just a neck behind Proxima Dea over 1800m, with Scarole also close behind in third. That result suggests there’s not much separating the leading chances, and the step up to 2000m could give Wonka another opportunity to turn the tables.
Jason Collett gets the ride from barrier 2, which is a big plus. He should be able to save ground, settle close to the pace, and look for a gap when the field straightens.
At $11, he’s worth considering at nice odds.

| Last start made ground from midfield; 2nd of 10 in the G3 Gloaming Stakes at Rosehill on October 10 over 1800m, neck behind Proxima Dea with 56.5kg at $7.50. The run before that came from midfield and won by a nose in the LR Dulcify Stakes at this track on October 3 over 1600m on a rain affected track defeating Genesis Runner carrying 56.5kg at $4.40. Genuine colt who only needs to get the trip to be right in this. | |||
Punters get value odds with our Spring Champion Stakes SRM, which includes our three selected runners.
We have Global Goal Top 2, Proxima Dea Top 3, and Wonka Top 5, which pays $8.00 for our three-runner SRM.
All three runners should have a chance to win the race, and the top two picks could quinella the event, so we only need Wonka to grip onto a Top 5 spot.
