Matt Markham has been through the form guide and speed maps and has provided his race analysis and betting strategy for each of the 11 races at the Addington Harness meeting on Friday 23 October below:
Nice price on offer for Rena (7) here fresh up off the back of a very nice trial behind The Lazarus Effect where she was hard held to the line. Scratched last week, so may have missed a little work but she’s a speedy mare with a front line draw and should make full use of it.
Selections: 7-5-1-2-12
| 7. Rena (7) J: Ben Hope 0250x T: Greg & Ben Hope | |||
| 8.5-length 3rd to open-class pacer 06 Oct trials. Fair record fresh. Upset hope. | |||
Beautifully placed to win a midweek race last Wednesday, Majestic Me (2) backs up here in a field that is no stronger than what was beaten on that occasion. Nice draw to use and should just track the speed throughout and look to have the final say again.
Selections: 2-11-7-6-3
| 2. Majestic Me (2) J: Brad Williamson 03571 T: Brad Williamson | |||
| Stylish win here midweek last week. Has more upside than some here. EW. | |||
Burnt the punters last week who had backed him into a commanding favourite, but perhaps the ace draw wasn’t quite ideal for Beast Mode (12). That money shift seven days ago is enough to suggest he was ready to win then, so he should be ready to win now too albeit with a slightly different path.
Selections: 12-1-6-3-4
| 12. Beast Mode (3) J: Craig Ferguson 20 T: Craig Ferguson | |||
| On the unruly after last Friday’s error. Did well to tack on though. Can atone. | |||
But for an early gallop last week, Evolution (8) would have likely won and wouldn’t have been an $8.50 quote for this race tonight. Really talented filly who wouldn’t have been out of place in the Gr.3 on Monday. Definitely good enough to win this, even from the wide draw.
Selections: 8-11-6-1-12
| 8. Evolution (8) J: Peter Davis 32315 T: Margo Nyhan | |||
| Cracking 5th after a mistake last week. Mobile a big help. Right in the fight. | |||
Big run first up on the grass at Methven earlier in the month from Bruciebytheseaside (6). No workouts or trials but was really brave to the line after doing plenty of work. Better for it and even from the widish draw here should be right in the hunt throughout and going close.
Selections: 6-4-8-3-7
| 6. Bruciebytheseaside (6) Scratched: | |||
A debutant trotter from the Ford and Tomlinson stable always grabs attention but the big trial win of On Point (3) only enhances the prospects here today. Looks a nice one in the making with plenty of the family ability (a half to Marcoola) and if able to roll to the front and bowl them along then looks well in play.
Selections: 3-8-6-7-4
| 3. On Point (3) J: Sheree Tomlinson T: Ken Ford & Amanda Tomlinson | |||
| Half-sister to Marcoola. Won her qualifier by 38 lengths. Sure to have fans. | |||
A Stonewall Stud debutant with plenty of upside, Spruced Up (7) is expected to run a bold race here on debut. Has looked better than just a maiden in his public runs and finds a wide open maiden field to begin the career in. A positive drive looks likely to net a positive result.
Selections: 7-6-4-8-9
| 7. Spruced Up (7) J: Tim Williams T: Steve & Amanda Telfer | |||
| Looped the field late for easy 15 Oct trial win. Will have some admirers. | |||
Some really nice work in the past few months by Request (7) and often in very good fields too. Sixth last time out looks just OK on paper but was a big effort and that field was better than this one. Front line draw is good, should roll forward and be handy and is good enough to put it to them and win.
Selections: 7-8-3-11-10
| 7. Request (7) J: Max Hill 12216 T: Ken Barron | |||
| Made up a stack of ground 02 Oct after great spring outings. Top billing here. | |||
A massive drop back in grade tonight for Bazooka (9) after taking on some really sharp fields in the last few starts. He’s copped a wide draw, but that might not matter because if Blair Orange wants to go forward he should get across them easily enough. Looks a big hope to get back to some winning form at a great each way quote.
Selections: 9-2-12-10-8
| 9. Bazooka (9) J: Blair Orange 8×625 T: Steven Reid | |||
| Running on well enough in his 3 starts back. Awkward draw but can place. | |||
Slashing final splits here last week from Cinderella Franco (11) after finding herself in an impossible position from the inside of the second row. A scratching means the same draw again here, but a little more luck in the running and some clear at the right time and she’ll charge on home.
Selections: 11-15-6-8-3
| 11. Cinderella Franco (2) J: Craig Thornley 203×3 T: Steven McRae | |||
| Flew when belatedly clear last Friday. Draw should work out better. On top. | |||
Two strong runs to start the campaign from Franco Lennon (2) behind Wishing For U and Quinn. Fitness levels right up now and from the good draw should be able to roll forward and stay handy to the speed tonight and with a bit of luck at the right time can win the last of the night.
Selections: 2-3-5-7-11
| 2. Franco Lennon (2) J: Tim Williams 32×55 T: Steve & Amanda Telfer | |||
| Only out very late here 09 Oct & nothing wrong with fresh 5th. A contender. | |||
