The US Open is currently underway at Flushing Meadows, and tennis expert Evan Psarras has provided us with his best betting plays of Day 9.
After a mistake-free opening week we may have to start considering Andreeva as a threat to go all the way. She is yet to drop a set, has won 88% of games on serve and 53% of return points. Another piece of good news, Andreeva has won her last three battles against Potapova including a 6-1 6-3 victory in the 3rd Round her a year ago. On that occasion she was able to break the Potapova serve 6 times in two short sets. She exposed the Potapova 2nd serve and was able to win 68% of 2nd serve return points. Anisimova was unable to convert her opportunities against Potapova – winning only 3 of 16 break points. It tells us that Andreeva will get plenty of opportunities and after having converted 67% of break opportunities thus far, she will break serve at will.

Gauff extended her win streak to 9 matches and has now won her last 8 in straight sets. She has consequently been installed as a firm favourite but that does create value for a play on Jovic who despite only being 18 years of age has made the 4th Round or better in 3 of her last 4 major appearances. Jovic is coming of an upset win over Eala and what that match confirmed is her ability to hit clean winners. The teenager struck 44 winners and made only 27 unforced errors – all while going for her shots. In comparison, Gauff had 15 winners and made 28 unforced errors in her win over Bucsa so don’t let the 6-3 6-4 scoreline fool you. Their only prior meeting came on clay earlier this year with Gauff winning a tight three set contest. Jovic will get more reward for her shots on this surface and I really like her chances here. She has the weight of shot, consistency and shot-making ability to decide the outcome of the contest.

Swiatek was down a break in each set against Bouzkova but as she so often does, she steadied the ship and elevated her came in the critical stages to win two tiebreakers. Zheng looked down and out when she lost the opening set against Keys 6-1 but wound back the clock from that point on to win the next two sets 7-6 7-5. That makes it four consecutive three-set matches dating back to the qualifiers and almost 13 hours on court compared to two and a half hours for Swiatek. At some point you have to think that Zheng will hit a wall and it will likely be against an opponent that she has struggled to beat. Swiatek leads the H2H 7-1 including three straight sets wins in the last three clashes on a hard court. Zheng has won not more than 6 games in any of those matches which makes Swiatek at the minus the play.

They are two of the most dominant servers on the WTA Tour and if their recent battle in Toronto is anything to go by, this one will go down to the wire. Rybakina came from a set down last month and took the deciding set 6-4. The match was decided by a handful of points with Rybakina winning 111 points to Osaka’s 107. The Rybakina serve was the difference with 15 aces for the match and she has averaged 0.89 aces per service game so far in this tournament. She has dropped serve a total of only three times in 6 sets played and her ability to generate free points on serve gives her a clear edge in this matchup. Want to be on Rybakina.
