The US Open is currently underway at Flushing Meadows, and tennis expert Evan Psarras has provided us with his best betting plays of Day 13.
Non-event is the best way to describe their respective quarter final matches. Khachanov was up two sets and a break when Blockx finally pulled the pin following multiple medical timeouts while Zverev made a fast start against Van de Zandschulp and was never headed. Zverev leads the H2H 6-3 but there are two clashes that need dissecting. The first is their battle in Toronto last year leading into the US Open with Khachanov winning a third set tiebreaker in a match where they combined for a total of only two breaks of serve. The other was their only prior encounter at Grand Slam level. It came some time ago (2018) but was a seesawing battle that went the distance (5 sets). Cannot see either player running away with it – especially with this match certain to get the day slot which will provide faster conditions and fewer breaks of serve. This will see Zverev’s ace numbers increase and we could see multiple tiebreakers. Don’t think Zverev should be this short in betting.

Best Bet: Over 39.5 games
Other: Khachanov To Win More Than 1 Set – YES
Value: Set 1 Tiebreak – YES
The last American male to win a Grand Slam was Andy Roddick at the 2003 US Open. The locals will have a chance to end the drought as they are guaranteed a spot in the final following two epic five set wins. It began with Tiafoe coming from two sets down to beat his compatriot (Michelsen) before Shelton completed the difficult task of knockout out the defending champion. His battle against Alcaraz finished a 3:33am local time but the pair have the benefit of a two-day break to prepare. This is a familiar matchup for the players and the crowd as it will be the third time in four years that they lock horns at the US Open. In 2023, Shelton won in four sets but a year later Tiafoe would get his revenge in a five set thriller. Shelton leads the H2H 3-1 but only one of their four battles has ended in straight sets. There have been 12+ total games in 5 of the last 12 sets played with the last 10 sets being decided by no more than a single break of serve. Can see this one going down to the wire!
