The US Open is currently underway at Flushing Meadows, and tennis expert Evan Psarras has provided us with his best betting plays of Day 12.
Their respective quarter final matches were epic! Sabalenka survived a barrage of 18 aces from Noskova, broke serve fewer times that her opponent, but produced her best in a third set match tiebreaker. Pegula was also tested. She lost the opening set against Navarro but remained level-headed, held the baseline and played on the front foot thereafter to dominate. The pair now meet for the 14th time on tour and the second consecutive year in the US Open semi finals. Sabalenka leads the H2H 9-4 but they have split the last four meetings. Sabalenka came from a set down on this court 12 months ago and went on to defend her title. They went the distance a month later in Wuhan but on that occasion, it was Pegula who won. Next up they went to battle in the final match of the season at the WTA Tour Finals. Three sets again with Sabalenka winning despite making 44 unforced errors. Their most recent class was on the grass courts of Berlin where the roller-coaster matchup continued. This time it was Pegula who won the deciding set and did so with a bagel. There has literally been nothing between them in the last year with all four clashes going the distance. Want to be on the Overs here with Pegula to win in three sets being the value play.
Tips
Best Bet: Over 22.5 games ($1.98)
Value: Sets Pegula 2-1 ($4.75)
Gauff was supposed to be the one that kept a lid on the error count in her battle against Andreeva, but it was not the case. She made 42 unforced errors including 12 double faults and was on the brink of defeat before running away with it in the deciding set. Rybakina also came from a set down to beat Zheng but she displayed greater precision and control throughout the contest. We get an excellent reference point as to how this match will play out as the pair met in Toronto less than a month ago. Gauff won a tight opening set but once Rybakina found her range it was curtains as she won 12 of the last 16 games. She was dominant on serve, controlled the baseline and was consistently able to play on the front foot. Gauff failed to apply the necessary pressure and it was evident on the scoreboard with Rybakina winning more than 60% of 2nd serve points. With Gauff’s 2nd serve vulnerabilities returning against Andreeva, she is in trouble. I am shocked to see them installed as equal favourites!
Tips
Best Bet: Rybakina WIN ($1.90)
Value: Gauff 10+ Double Faults ($3.05)
