Matt Markham has been through the form guide and speed maps and has provided his race analysis and betting strategy for each of the 10 races at the Oamaru Harness meeting on Sunday 13 September below:
Three very strong runs to open the career by Yukon Hill (4) and beaten by a couple of very smart ones in the last two efforts. Her time to strike today and with a small field of rivals she should be close enough to them throughout to make her case.
Selections: 4-3-9-5-1
| 4. Yukon Hill (4) J: Nathan Williamson 333 T: Phil Williamson | |||
| Chasing handy types in recent 3rds. Primed & ready to strike on home track. | |||
Super run on debut at Addington last week from Aardie’s Memphis (1) who did a power of work and looked set to fight out the finish before a freakish performance went sailing by. Better set up here and a better horse for having had a run. Ticks all the boxes.
Selections: 1-6-3-10-8
| 1. Aardie’s Memphis (1) J: Carter Dalgety 2 T: Cran & Chrissie Dalgety | |||
| Excellent in his gritty debut 2nd at Addington. Hard to hold out from the ace. | |||
Beaten by the very smart Redback Bob last time to the races and Kings Choice (11) pushed him very hard to the wire. Heading in the right direction and back into a graded race here if he can get away on even terms then he should have too much class for his rivals.
Selections: 11-14-7-13-1
| 11. Kings Choice (11) J: Nathan Williamson x6212 T: Phil Williamson | |||
| Game against a smart one in his Winton 2nd. Right in this on that form. | |||
Beaten by a pretty smart and fast one up the lane last Friday night, Tour Party (6) lost no admirers. He’s the real deal and likely to push for pretty high honours as the second half of the season unfolds. Small field here and his class has him too good for rivals today.
Selections: 6-2-4-1-3
| 6. Tour Party (6) J: Carter Dalgety 111×2 T: Cran & Chrissie Dalgety | |||
| Excellent fresh 2nd & only strips fitter. Class act very hard to hold out. | |||
Really good first up run in the Ordeal Cup last week by Walkinonsunshine (13) and with her stand start manners she becomes a real live chance here today. Could settle well in front of many of her key rivals and with the chance she can make this race her own.
Selections: 13-2-15-14-9
| 13. Walkinonsunshine (13) J: Blair Orange 651×5 T: Tom Bagrie | |||
| Handy work fresh & sure to strip fitter. Thrives in this company & rates. | |||
Big things ahead for Secret Wish (1) and while this is just the first step for the campaign, expect her to be pretty ready to rock and roll and using every bit of her great barrier draw. Class will carry her a long way and with the right trip should deliver.
Selections: 1-9-4-5-3
| 1. Secret Wish (1) J: Blair Orange 1191x T: Hayden & Amanda Cullen | |||
| Classy filly ready to resume off two trials. Hard to beat from the ace draw. | |||
Had to come from a long way back and wide around the last bend at Addington last week and Marble Arch (1) was really brave to the line. Only better for it and a massive swing in draws here. A good run close to the speed, or on it, and looks a great bet.
Selections: 1-10-11-12-5
| 1. Marble Arch (1) J: Carter Dalgety 314×2 T: Cran & Chrissie Dalgety | |||
| Strong work in fresh 2nd & gets a massive draw upgrade. The horse to beat. | |||
Massive effort in the Maurice Holmes Vase at Addington last month from Dreams Are Free (5) after he botched the start. That’s the only concern here, but when he does catch it, he’s very fast away and might land on the speed. Any kind of clean beginning though and he’s right in contention here.
Selections: 5-7-3-8-2
| 5. Dreams Are Free (5) J: Nathan Williamson 10415 T: Nathan Williamson | |||
| Had more to offer in Addington 5th. Well capable when he gets it right. Consider | |||
Smashed the clock running third here last month and for another 50m Tarragindi (11) probably would have won. Might have to be as good here off a backmark but if the trot along up front then he comes right into play as he’s so fast at the business end of his races.
Selections: 11-13-8-9-7
| 11. Tarragindi (11) J: Nathan Williamson 21122 T: Nathan Williamson | |||
| Made nice ground late in latest 2nd. Tough handicap but big respect. | |||
A couple of really sharp trials to ready for a return to the track by Teddy The Terror (12) and even from the second row draw he finds a winnable race to come back in. Looks pretty forward judging by his public runs and no surprise to see him right in it today.
Selections: 12-5-9-7-14
| 12. Teddy The Terror (4) J: John Morrison 5503x T: John Morrison | |||
| Handy work in trials to prepare. Genuine claims in suitable grade. | |||
