Matt Markham has been through the form guide and speed maps and has provided his race analysis and betting strategy for each of the 12 races at the Addington Harness meeting on Friday 11 September below:
No shame in defeat last time out from Brooks Spirit (1) after such a strong debut win. Only better for the racing and if able to navigate the one barrier here should end up getting a nice enough trip on the speed and with luck can play a major role.
Selections: 1-6-3-4-5
1. Brooks Spirit (1) J: Ben Hope 12 T: Greg & Ben Hope
Lovely each way price on offer for Moonlite CC (6) tonight. Has been fantastic over the last couple of months with the only real miss coming from a horror draw in a big field at Rangiora. Much better placed here and wouldn’t need to go any better to be right in the fight.
Selections: 6-7-8-5-2
6. Moonlite CC (6) J: Robbie Close 34204 T: Andrew Stuart
A cracking trial here a few weeks by Miss Moneypenny (3). Came from off the speed and wasn’t that far behind the very impressive Marikit who has since one. Has really high speed and looks to have developed beautifully since the first campaign. A live chance here.
Selections: 3-1-7-9-5
3. Miss Moneypenny (3) J: Kimberly Butt 4x T: Derek & Adele Jones
A lot to like about the last two trials of Scoundrel (3) who hails from a pretty good family and can run like most of them too. Well schooled and ready to rock and roll it would come as no surprise to see him step out tonight and deliver a telling performance.
Selections: 3-1-7-6-10
3. Scoundrel (3) J: Seth Hill T: Brendon Hill
A very good debut win here by Eyes Wide Open (7) who smashed rivals and looked to have plenty to spare at the end too. A bit of a bigger field here and a widish draw to contend with but looks a leading light in the age group at the moment and a big chance here.
Selections: 7-8-1-3-4
7. Eyes Wide Open (7) J: Blair Orange 1 T: Hayden & Amanda Cullen
A nice escape tonight from some strong recent racing for Tee Ball (3) and does relish a 2600m stand. Should ping onto the speed early and if able to stay close enough, perhaps even in front, then is good enough to run this field off their feet.
Selections: 3-11-10-9-6
3. Tee Ball (3) J: Robbie Close 17643 T: Anne-Marie & Jack Best
There’s a little bit of meat on the price of Suttle (4) tonight after her very good first up win. Not sure quite how good she is or where she matches up with the other fillies in the age group but we’ll get a good indication tonight and with a good draw, she should be on the speed and fighting out the finish.
Selections: 4-9-8-7-6
4. Suttle (4) J: John Dunn 632×1 T: Robert & Jenna Dunn
Smart pacing mare Arafura (4) returns here tonight and while these types of races can be incredibly hard to win in a fresh state, she’s probably got the brilliance to be one of the exceptions. Won’t blast the gate, but expect her to be handy at some point and putting them to the sword over the final stages.
Selections: 4-7-1-8-6
4. Arafura (4) J: Blair Orange 1242x T: Hayden & Amanda Cullen
Sectionally you couldn’t have asked for anything more out of Captain Tyron (5) last time out. Charged home from an impossible position and smashed the clock in doing so. Fitter and has a better draw here tonight and expect him to use it to full advantage.
Selections: 5-6-7-2-3
5. Captain Tyron (5) J: John Dunn 111×3 T: Robert & Jenna Dunn
A really tidy Addington trial to prepare for tonight’s return by Bounce N Beyond (6) and expect him to be in for a very good campaign. Nice race to kick off in and if he can get it right and be close to the speed turning for home then his class will carry him close.
Selections: 6-7-1-3-4
6. Bounce N Beyond (6) J: Tim Williams 4770x T: Robert & Jenna Dunn
A bonus run in the grade for Ma Belle Amie Franco (1) after winning a junior drivers’ race last time out. She’s fast and with the aid of the inside draw should land in a great spot early and if able to get one clear shot at them from the top of the straight then she might not be beaten.
Selections: 1-9-8-2-6
1. Ma Belle Amie Franco (1) J: Gemma Thornley 21×31 T: Steven McRae
After going beast mode and winning over a better field last time out, Trump Card (7) looks incredibly well placed here tonight. Wide draw, yes. But that doesn’t matter in this kind of grade as he’s shown he can make his own luck. A good bet to end the night.
Selections: 7-6-3-5-1
7. Trump Card (7) J: Craig Ferguson 21551 T: Hayden & Amanda Cullen
