Matt Markham has been through the form guide and speed maps and has provided his race analysis and betting strategy for each of the 12 races at the Addington Harness meeting on Friday 4 September below:
Small field to start the night but I’m The Boss (3) shouldn’t have too much trouble in making sure the race is her’s fresh up from a spell. Nice trial last week here on the Addington track to ready and with options a plenty she looks really tough to beat.
Selections: 3-2-1
3. I’m The Boss (3) J: Blair Orange 21xT: Hayden & Amanda Cullen
There was an air of arrogance about the fresh up win of Request (7) a couple of weeks ago and it hinted toward bigger and better things as the season progresses. Not a huge step up here either and if able to get away well and get onto the speed then should take all sorts of catching once more.
Selections: 7-10-12-1-4
7. Request (7) J: Blair Orange x43x1T: Ken Barron
After chasing hard for second on debut behind Suspicious Captain at Oamaru, Major Lazarus (2) looks well poised to go one better here. Form is great as the winner has since won again and from a handy draw you’d expect a confident drive early to put him on the speed and in control.
Selections: 2-11-10-4-6
2. Major Lazarus (2) J: Ben Hope 2T: Greg & Ben Hope
Only a relative newcomer to the racing game but as you expect from a trotter from the Paul Nairn barn there’s a lot to like about Marikit (4). Had a freshen up after breaking maidens and stepped out at the trials last week and looked awesome winning the heat. Manners the key, but with them the one to beat.
Selections: 4-12-11-9-1
4. Marikit (4) J: Bob Butt 21T: Paul Nairn
A couple of really tidy public runs from Hawk Touie Louie (1) ahead of tonight’s return and they couldn’t have scripted it much better with a great draw. Looks set to hold a forward spot and perhaps follow the leader throughout and with the lane late should be bursting through at a nice each way quote.
Selections: 1-11-3-9-8
1. Hawk Touie Louie (1) J: Bob Butt 9162xT: Bob Butt
The addition of the half-hopples last week to the gear of Tyron Eros (11) made a big difference and he charged his way through the line well to finish fifth. That followed up a big trial win the week prior, so he’s a horse heading in the right direction. Big price on offer but if he trots up to his best he’d just about win this.
Selections: 11-9-5-3-1
11. Tyron Eros (11) J: Gerard O’Reilly 47075T: Gerard O’Reilly
After making big strides last campaign, Sacetas (5) returns to his original trainer this campaign and showed he’s on track to pick up where he left off with a nice trial win to prepare. Racy type who if able to get up onto the speed will look to run them off their feet late in the piece.
Selections: 5-2-3-8-4
5. Sacetas (5) J: John Dunn 1118xT: Tom Bagrie
Smart trotting mare Eurostyle (9) resumes here tonight and while she’ll take plenty of benefit out of the run she is more than capable of winning in a fresh state. Trial win last week was excellent and she looks right on song for a great campaign.
Selections: 9-11-7-10-8
9. Eurostyle (9) J: Kimberly Butt 7471xT: Derek & Adele Jones
Super first up victory from The Lazarus Effect (1) here two weeks ago to book his ticket to the NZ Trotting Cup. Natural improvement from that run and the addition of the blinds to make him concentrate a little better should really have him winning again here tonight too.
Selections: 1-5-6-2-3
1. The Lazarus Effect (1) J: Bob Butt 122×1T: Bob Butt
Lovely progression through the trials of Tour Party (8) ahead of tonight. Went beast mode on many of his rivals here tonight last week at the trials and you’d think he’ll just keep getting better and better. Some work to do from the draw, but he’s a class act and the one to beat.
Selections: 8-9-7-6-5
8. Tour Party (8) J: Anthony Butt 1111xT: Cran & Chrissie Dalgety
One of the finds of the last few months at Addington, Franco Lomu (7) will chase another win here tonight after a fast-finishing effort for second in the Rising Stars Series last time. That high speed he showed there makes him a tough one to roll if close enough tonight.
Selections: 7-1-5-4-2
| 7. Franco Lomu (7) Scratched: | |||
Just another of the steady stream of very nice horses Cran and Chrissie Dalgety are producing at the moment, Marble Arch (10) resumes here. Caught the eye in a trial last week going to the line under a hold and with any luck from the inside of the second row he’ll be hard to beat here.
Selections: 10-1-2-4-9
10. Marble Arch (1) J: Kimberly Butt 1314xT: Cran & Chrissie Dalgety
