Matt Markham gives his best in all races at Addington Harness on Friday 3 July.
He went out favourite from a horrible draw last time out and wasn’t bad, but things look a lot better for Harry Belafonte this week and he’s paying huge money. Should get the right trip on the markers behind the right kind of horse and with a bit of luck at the right time can be a major each way player here.
Selections: 10-7-11-4-2
10. Harry Belafonte (1) J: Stephen McNally 00626T: Stephen McNally
Heavily supported in all three runs last campaign before heading to the paddock and time always looked like it would be a friend for Lexicon (6). Gets a great opportunity to kick off the new campaign on the right kind of note and should be hard to beat here.
Selections: 6-4-2-8-1
6. Lexicon (6) J: Bob Butt 322xT: Bob Butt
One of the better ones behind a rampant Tempo Warrior here a fortnight ago, Caught The Eye (8) made up good ground on slick sectionals and is going to win one soon. Nice chance tonight with only a small field of rivals and a little luck and a drag into it and she should be the one to beat.
Selections: 8-1-5-3-4
8. Caught The Eye (8) J: Tim Williams 28233T: Steve & Amanda Telfer
Enough signs in the last effort from Chocta (6) to suggest he’s getting back to somewhere near his best and at his best, he’ll be dangerous here. Mobile conditions suit and should be able to roll forward and get into a good spot. Talent will take him a long way.
Selections: 6-9-8-3-2
6. Chocta (6) J: Robbie Close 4×655T: John Howe
Wee freshen up for Bruciebytheseaside (4) after finishing second for Wishing For U here last time out. Talented pacer who footed it with some of the better three-year-olds of the age prior to his last run. Nice draw to work from and should be on the speed and out of trouble and, ultimately, hard to beat.
Selections: 4-7-6-11-8
4. Bruciebytheseaside (4) J: Matthew Williamson 26052T: Stephen Boyd
With the sectionals Franco Harlem ran up front it was always going to be impossible for Crunchy Granola (1). Much better placed here form a good draw and if able to hold up then should be in a handy spot turning for home and very hard to beat.
Selections: 1-7-10-9-8
1. Crunchy Granola (1) J: John Morrison 526T: John Hay
She’s a trotter with pacer like speed when saved up for one run and Midnight Diamond (11) showcased that here last time out. Only going to be better for the run too and watch her work through the grades quickly. Just needs to be close enough turning in to run them down again.
Selections: 11-2-9-7-4
11. Midnight Diamond (11) J: John Dunn 947×1T: Robert & Jenna Dunn
One of the better three-year-olds in behind Marketplace and Got The Chocolates last season, Bettors Anvil (9) returns here. He’s been gelded in between times and has had a strong build up of work and looks pretty ready to go. Just needs a good tempo to bring him into play late.
Selections: 9-4-6-2-8
9. Bettors Anvil (9) J: Tim Williams 4443xT: Steve & Amanda Telfer
Getting back behind the mobile should be key for Transonic (7) after be bumbled the standing start fresh up. Pretty nice horse when he’s on the job and it would be no surprise to see him roll across and control this and show his talent.
Selections: 7-2-3-12-11
7. Transonic (7) J: Tim Williams 211×0T: Steve & Amanda Telfer
Really taken by the last two efforts of Randel Huston P (5) and think he comes into this as a horse with the confidence up and a live chance. Sectionally he’s been excellent in his last two and wouldn’t have to go any better this time around to be a major player at a nice price.
Selections: 5-7-3-1-6
5. Randel Huston P (5) J: Blair Orange 55725T: Brent & Tim White
Did it tough over the final lap last week but Bettor Than Lizzy (6) didn’t throw the towel in. Handled her first standing start well and this is a bit of step back in grade so would expect her to be very prominent. A good beginning and she should land on the speed and be right there at the finish.
Selections: 6-7-4-2-3
6. Bettor Than Lizzy (6) J: Carter Dalgety 97546T: Cran & Chrissie Dalgety
