Have tipped Osaka to cover the games handicap in her last two matches but it is now time to back against her. The former world number one had a significant edge in her semi final match with Parks having to back up after her win over Volynets in a matter of a few hours. Had Parks converted her break point opportunities at a better rate than 1 out of 10, the scoreboard would have been much closer.
One player that didn’t have any issue backing up was Tauson. After dispatching top seed Madison Keys in straight sets, she was able to break the Montgomery serve four times in a comfortable win. It was the second time this week that she won more than 74% of 1st serve points but more importantly, was able to generate 14 break opportunities and convert four of them. Osaka may be the household name but no player in the draw has hit the ball cleaner or more consistent than Tauson. In addition to this, she has been clutch in the biggest moments as indicated by her 3-0 record in tiebreakers.
Osaka hasn’t needed to play her best at any point. She has played a fraction of the pressure points that Tauson has encountered this season and that will amount for something as this match will be significantly closer than expected. Not only will Tauson cover the games handicap, but she will also be winning the match outright!
