Matt Markham gives his best in all races at Methven Harness on Sunday, October 4.
Has returned from a spell in fine fettle and the last effort from Lap It Up (3) when sitting parked at Orari was massive. Always looked capable of winning a maiden and with a clean getaway today and another run close to the speed there’s a win for the taking.
Selections: 3-1-5-14-12
3. Lap It Up (3) J: Kimberly Butt 07×32 T: Derek & Adele Jones
A string of really good efforts lately from Brookies Player (8) and another win looks pretty close at hand. Tricky draw to work from today but is good enough to stay out of the early rush and work into it when suits and be right there fighting out the finish.
Selections: 8-1-7-9-10
8. Brookies Player (8) J: Wilson House 33244 T: Michael House
A very strong debut effort from Rising Bromac (9) back in July when second behind a handy one. Given some time and has had a good diet of trials and workouts to prepare. Has shown good ability on this grass track in trials and workouts so ticks a few boxes.
Selections: 9-7-4-10-2
9. Rising Bromac (9) J: Jim Curtin 2 T: Jim Curtin
Big money on offer for Jasprit Trouble (5) here given the career record and a strong liking for the grass. Couple of runs under the belt to bring the fitness on and this is the kind of race he could be a major player in with good manners and a run close to the speed.
Selections: 5-3-2-7-4
5. Jasprit Trouble (5) J: Riley Harrison 76×87 T: Michael Heenan
A really impressive victory first up from Crunchie (3) at Orari and it won’t be the only win either. Manners were great and ran to the line with plenty in store. Finds a winnable race up in grade again too and with another good beginning looks set to be right in the hunt.
Selections: 3-1-7-6-10
3. Crunchie (3) J: Samantha Ottley 1 T: Denise Ottley
An eye-catching effort at Timaru last Sunday behind Ocean Of Tears should bring Could Be Katy (1) right into play today. Lands a sweet draw with a stablemate directly to the outside so isn’t going to be far off the speed throughout and can poke through late and grab the win.
Selections: 1-2-3-11-10
1. Could Be Katy (1) J: John Dunn 1x5p3 T: Robert & Jenna Dunn
A quite remarkable opening price for Gotta Elect Bill (10) here given his recent runs and the quality of field he has been facing. Fitness levels are right up high too so has a chance here to turn some good form into winning form and at a big double-figure quote he’s well worth a few gold coins.
Selections: 10-11-8-5-2
10. Gotta Elect Bill (10) J: Olivia Thornley 70376 T: Michael House
Has trotted his way into a really rich vein of form in the past month or so has Val Thorens (7) and has been winning with a bit of authority too. Not a huge jump in grade here today either and with good manners and a chance to unleash can easily win again.
Selections: 7-8-5-3-1
7. Val Thorens (7) J: Ben Hope 03211 T: Greg & Ben Hope
Mr Consistent for the past few months, Taumutu Lad (11) gets in here pretty nicely when you look back through the kind of fields he has been facing at Addington. Running great races too and even from the second row draw should have the class edge to win this in a number of different ways. Selections: 11-12-4-13-14
11. Taumutu Lad (2) J: Sarah O’Reilly 54635 T: Sarah O’Reilly
A long way off being the full package, J T Boe (8) steps out here and looks a big contender in the Methven Cup. His ceiling is very high and it would be no surprise to see him really stand up and be counted against some quality rivals. Looking for a big performance.
Selections: 8-10-11-4-9
8. J T Boe (8) J: Tim Williams x5131 T: Steve & Amanda Telfer
First look at the grass track on race day for Princess Sadie (16) but she does a lot of work on one at home so no concerns there. Big run in the Jasmyn’s Gift after getting no luck and will be better for that run too. Bit of work to do off the mark, but her class has her in the hunt.
Selections: 16-9-15-17-11
16. Princess Sadie (16) J: Matthew Williamson 373×7 T: Matthew Williamson
Big win at Timaru last Sunday by Rakero Maximus (3) and it was no fluke either, he’s a pretty serious horse. Same kind of field here and from a better draw you could expect him to be on the speed and making them chase once again and, also once again, they might not catch him.
Selections: 3-1-11-2-7
3. Rakero Maximus (3) J: Robbie Close 00061 T: Warwick Roberts
