Matt Markham gives his best in all races at Methven Harness on Sunday, October 11.
Smart filly Queen Lizzy (5) picks herself here. With a smart career record in the age groups, she’s shown versatility in very good fields throughout her career and this is a nice step down in grade. From the good draw should be handy throughout and hard to run down.
Selections: 5-12-15-9-8
| 5. Queen Lizzy (5) J: Anthony Butt 54366 T: Mark Jones | |||
| Solid Northern runs and can make her presence felt here off the front row. | |||
Lovely up and coming trotter Enchanted Star (1) has been fantastic in both career runs and looks one who should pick one up pretty quickly. Really found the line with purpose here last week and if able to get away from the ace draw and find a nice trip then she take some stopping.
Selections: 1-10-11-14-7
| 1. Enchanted Star (1) J: Olivia Thornley 33 T: Olivia Thornley | |||
| Two placings to start career and with similar manners can breakthrough today. | |||
Tidy efforts since resuming from a spell by Peraki Lad (4) and he lands a nice draw to work forward from today. Likes the grass surfaces and if able to find the front and control the tempo then looks capable of going all the way in what is a wide open maiden field.
Selections: 4-5-1-10-3
| 4. Peraki Lad (4) J: Riley Harrison 4×445 T: Grant Payne | |||
| Racing solidly this campaign and back to the grass is required from decent draw. | |||
Not a lot went right on debut for Grandad Don (4) who found trouble at multiple points during the race. He’ll make amends here, especially if he can trot onto the speed and give them all something to chase. A talented trotter with a future ahead of him.
Selections: 4-12-3-11-10
| 4. Grandad Don (4) J: Ricky May 2 T: John Morrison | |||
| Tried hard at Tim on debut as fave. Wouldn’t need to produce much more to win. | |||
Delivered in fine fashion here last week to cap a strong run of form and there is no reason why Taumutu Lad (1) shouldn’t offer up more of the same here today. Has a chance to jump out and grab a trip and should be no worse than three back the fence. Clear air at the top of the straight and he’ll be charging.
Selections: 1-3-10-8-12
| 1. Taumutu Lad (1) J: Sarah O’Reilly 46351 T: Sarah O’Reilly | |||
| Scored a dominant and deserved win last week. This harder but draw an assist. | |||
Expect a sharp improvement from Rising Bromac (2) here from last week’s run, not that much improvement would be needed to win because the effort was very good. Was first up for a while there and went to the line fighting. Nice draw to use again and should be hard to beat.
Selections: 2-7-8-4-3
| 2. Rising Bromac (2) J: Jim Curtin 23 T: Jim Curtin | |||
| Both career runs have had plenty of merit and she looks hard to beat from alley. | |||
Thought he would go close here last week, but the condition might still be coming off Jasprit Trouble (3) as he was just OK through the line finishing fourth. Another run should have brought him right on and if can trot onto the speed early here then he’s right in commission.
Selections: 3-7-9-15-2
| 3. Jasprit Trouble (3) J: Riley Harrison 6×874 T: Michael Heenan | |||
| Closed nicely a week ago and from a handy spot can offer combos value today. | |||
Beaten by a pretty smart one on debut down south, one who should rocket through the grades, so no shame in defeat for Humber Hawk (5). Better for the experience and finds a big field of 2YO’s here. If he can punch forward and be handy then he looks the horse they will need to beat.
Selections: 5-14-8-6-16
| 5. Humber Hawk (5) J: Carter Dalgety 2 T: Cran & Chrissie Dalgety | |||
| Went close 1st-up at Gore. Similar alley to use here and sure to give good sight | |||
Super run here last week from Lexicon (11) in a very strong fillies and mares race. This is a step down from that and if the manners are there again you’d expect a run similar to seven days ago to net a winning result in what is a wide open trotting race.
Selections: 11-3-5-7-4
| 11. Lexicon (11) J: Bob Butt 21446 T: Bob Butt | |||
| Not far away last week here. OK overall since winning so throw into multiples. | |||
Not much hiding from the fact that Tact Teva (14) is the best horse in this race and over the 3000m he has plenty of time to get settled before working his way into the contest. In the top two or three turning for home it would be a surprise to see him beaten.
Selections: 14-10-5-15-11
| 14. Tact Teva (14) J: Tim Williams 31151 T: Steve & Amanda Telfer | |||
| Made it 4 from last 6 scoring at Tim. Must keep safe in grass track debut today. | |||
Grass track specialist Hi Hopes (3) has a few runs under the belt now and should be ready to strike. Comes up with a nice draw to use here and if able to get onto the speed early and then be saved for one crack at them, should be a little too slick.
Selections: 3-11-7-5-2
| 3. Hi Hopes (3) J: John Dunn x6467 T: Tom Bagrie | |||
| Not far away since returning and from another handy alley looks place bait again | |||
Another trotter dropping out of last week’s strong fillies and mares race, Amistozo (9) was really good through the line. Most importantly, showed good manners to get onto the speed and might look to do the same from out wide on the front line. Better for that run last week and a major player here.
Selections: 9-6-4-1-5
| 9. Amistozo (9) J: Jonny Cox 35575 T: John Morrison | |||
| Went close last week after being left alone by punters. Can press the fave hard. | |||
Real hard luck story last week was Jukebox Gypsy (10) got wiped out at the top of the straight and managed to find rhythm again and was strong through the line. Good in both runs so far and with a bit of luck from the draw here can win this at a nice price.
Selections: 10-12-13-3-4
| 10. Jukebox Gypsy (1) J: Sarah O’Reilly 44×45 T: Gerard O’Reilly | |||
| Copped a nasty check when looking to close hard last week. Threat with daylight. | |||
