Epsom Handicap 2026 Tips, Predictions & Best Bets

We have Epsom Handicap tips and predictions for the Group 1 1600m race at Randwick on Saturday.

Epsom Handicap odds are available, and it’s Kiwi mare Well Written headlining the full field for the time-honoured race.

Best Bet
#6 Well Written @ $3.90

The unbeaten Kiwi mare hasn’t exactly been treated kindly with 55kg, which looks a touch harsh. But we know she has the class to handle this field, and she’s our top pick to show the Aussies a thing or two.

Trained by Stephen Marsh, the 4YO superstar has been unbeaten in her recent outings, including a win over Belle Cheval, who subsequently went on to win a Group 1 in Australia before being retired. The form across the Tasman certainly stacks up.

Her turn of foot is electric, and the switch from Matt Cartwright to Zac Lloyd shouldn’t put punters off. Lloyd is one of the young guns of the riding ranks, and from barrier 3, he should get every chance to settle her in the right spot.

She looks like the horse to beat, and after opening at $5, the market wasted little time tightening around her.

Second run back. First-up after six months won by 1.75 len in the G1 Proisir Plate at Ellerslie on September 5 over 1400m in soft going defeating Alabama Lass carrying 56.5kg at $1.60. Previously second-up scored a big 6 len win in the G2 Soliloquy Stakes at Ellerslie on October 18 over 1400m defeating Little Black Dress carrying 56.5kg at $2.70. Undefeated in seven starts and goes to a new level here, big chance.

Next Best
#3 Autumn Boy @ $3.80

Autumn Boy brings some serious Australian form into this, having finished runner-up to Sheza Alibi last time out in a performance that reads extremely well for this assignment.

The 4YO also gets a much more favourable deal at the weights, carrying just 55.5kg. That’s only 0.5kg more than Well Written, despite Autumn Boy already having Group 1 form on his record across the Tasman.

He shapes as a key runner to include in our Epsom Handicap tips. Barrier 1 is ideal, giving him every chance to secure the perfect run, while the booking of James McDonald only adds to his appeal.

McDonald has been bullish about his chances of getting the better of the Kiwi, and Autumn Boy has plenty going for him.

#5 Lady Shenandoah @ $12.00

Lady Shenandoah was subject to some big bets during the week after opening at $26, and that’s a confident bet.

The Chris Waller-trained mare wasn’t too far behind Angel Capital last start, and although we question if that’s the best form for the Epsom Handicap, she is one of the more explosive milers in this race.

She has progressed from a sprinter to a miler this season, and although barrier 16 makes life difficult for Tommy Berry, she could be the one flashing home over the top of them.

Second run from a spell tracked the speed and boxed on steadily 4th of 16 in the G1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes at Caulfield on September 19 over 1400m, 1.3 len behind Angel Capital with 56kg at $4.80. Awful map and hard to tip with any confidence.
