Matt Markham has been through the form guide and speed maps and has provided his race analysis and betting strategy for each of the 13 races at the Addington Harness meeting on Friday 16 October below:
She’s had a couple of really good chances lately that she hasn’t taken but Queen Lizzy (2) must get her name on the winners’ sheet at some point soon. Good draw tonight in a race that looks well within range and if she’s there turning for home, it’s her race to lose.
Selections: 2-5-6-4-1
2. Queen Lizzy (2) J: Anthony Butt 43662 T: Mark Jones
Really sharp trial the other day from Rena (5) in behind The Lazarus Effect. Went to the line under a strong hold and with a good draw to use tonight in a field that looks within range if she can find the front and control things then she’s going to be very hard to beat.
Selections: 5-8-4-3-9
| 5. Rena (5) Scratched: | |||
Back on a new campaign for a new stable it will be interesting to see how the talented Elton J (6) measure up. Sharp trial win to ready for this and if he can get away well and perhaps find his way to the front then he might just run away with this.
Selections: 6-5-2-4-8
6. Elton J (6) J: Blair Orange 1511x T: Regan Todd
Seriously in the conversation for being our best two-year-old trotter at the moment, Master McGoogan (8) should find this assignment nothing more than a bit of fast work really. Form around him looks super and he could just bowl on across to the lead and put them away in the first hundred metres.
Selections: 8-6-4-3-5
8. Master McGoogan (8) J: Matthew Williamson 11×21 T: Matthew Williamson
The beautifully bred Jacque (2) makes his debut here and everything we’ve seen from him in public suggest he’s very good. Second behind Wise Move in the latest trial which is good form after it’s Methven win last week. Nice draw to use and ticks all the right boxes for winning debut.
Selections: 2-1-12-4-14
2. Jacque (2) J: Bob Butt T: Bob Butt
Smart three-year-old trotting filly Montata (2) steps out here after finishing fourth behind Becky’s Girl at Listed level last time out. Has shown she’s good from the stand and if able to get away well and find the right kind of run then her class should take her very close tonight.
Selections: 2-10-8-12-11
| 2. Montara (2) Scratched: | |||
For sheer speed, none here will match it over a furlong with Cinderella Franco (10) and from the draw that’s looking the most likely way she’s going to be driven. Needs a little luck, but if the gaps come at the right time she’ll charge and can certainly win this.
Selections: 10-12-4-6-7
10. Cinderella Franco (1) J: Craig Thornley 1203x T: Steven McRae
Things worked out beautifully for Marketplace (8) here in a fresh state last time and he duly delivered. Better for it and on an upward trend to the second Tuesday in November. Won’t get it quite as easy this time around but if he runs up to near his best then he’s the horse they all need to beat.
Selections: 8-2-9-3-5
8. Marketplace (8) J: Craig Ferguson 13121 T: Regan Todd
With a wicked turn of foot tonight’s draw doesn’t bode too badly for Franco Lomu (10). He was super last week in behind Jumal after setting the early speed, but best when saved up and gets that chance here. A little bit of luck and he’ll be charging late.
Selections: 10-11-12-1-7
10. Franco Lomu (1) J: Jonny Cox 11223 T: Regan Todd
It’s been a brilliant start to the campaign for Higher Power (8) up in the north and that form should translate down here in Canterbury too. Showed some versatility last time which will have rivals cautiously looking over their shoulders. Without doubt the one to beat here.
Selections: 8-11-10-9-6
8. Higher Power (8) J: Harrison Orange 19×11 T: Barry Purdon & Scott Phelan
Two very strong wins to open the campaign by Arafura (7) and tonight she might not have to worry about being the pace maker and instead focus on joining in when she wants to. That suits her better but with the runs on the board she’ll be hard to stop here.
Selections: 7-5-6-4-3
7. Arafura (7) J: Blair Orange 42×11 T: Hayden & Amanda Cullen
Massive runs in both efforts back from a spell by Tetrick (1) and as long as they haven’t taken anything out of him then he should be very hard to roll tonight. Comes off the unruly which is the only real concern but if he trots away with them around the first bend then it’s his race to lose.
Selections: 1-6-2-7-9
1. Tetrick (1) J: Carter Dalgety 82×32 T: Cran & Chrissie Dalgety
Super effort here last week from Just Like Jagger (6) in a strong field of mares. Racing herself into some very good form and on a drop back here looks well placed. Gait speed to lead and if she finds the front then don’t be surprised if she stays there. A big chance.
Selections: 6-3-5-7-8
6. Just Like Jagger (6) J: Kirstin Green 22×54 T: Kirstin Green
