Matt Markham has been through the form guide and speed maps and has provided his race analysis and betting strategy for each of the nine races at the Winton Harness meeting on Thursday 17 September below:
A maiden win is incoming for Mach A Wish (3) and today looks a nice day to make it happen. He’s been OK throughout his short career to date and looks decently placed here tonight. A good draw should see bad luck taken out of the equation and him going close.
Selections: 3-5-6-4-1
3. Mach A Wish (3) J: Kirstin Green 46724 T: Kirstin Green
There’s been a few chances for Shakedown (8) lately and they’ve all pretty much not been taken, but there’s been enough in each run to keep you interested. Generally just gets out and trots so ticks a big box here and if able to get close to the speed today is going near enough to be a big winning hope.
Selections: 8-6-4-2-11
8. Shakedown (8) J: Nathan Williamson 23656 T: Nathan Williamson
More ability than most in this and if she gets the chance then Cheer Up N Dance (10) should show it here. Bit of work to do from the draw, but with a bit of luck early should end up close enough to the speed and might actually work into it at some point and look to out-tough them.
Selections: 10-6-4-11-5
10. Cheer Up N Dance (2) J: Nathan Williamson 13476 T: Nathan Williamson
Really sharp Ashburton trial last week from Bill Ackman (5) and he looks a quick winner based off that. Stable is running red hot at the moment and they don’t send them south unless they can win. Small field suits and his race to lose.
Selections: 5-3-7-1-4
5. Bill Ackman (5) J: Carter Dalgety T: Cran & Chrissie Dalgety
Overall she’s been a bit disappointing lately has Bettor Than Lizzy (1) but she’s so much better than the formline shows. Nice draw to use here and if she punches out and stays on the speed her Canterbury efforts should be good enough to have her winning today.
Selections: 1-2-7-9-10
1. Bettor Than Lizzy (1) J: Carter Dalgety 04595 T: Cran & Chrissie Dalgety
An eye-catching effort late last week at Invercargill from Donttellarty (2). He got clear and really steamed through the line. Looks to have come back in great nick and if able to get into a good spot today then becomes one of the leading lights in what is a wide open trotting affair.
Selections: 2-1-10-6-4
2. Donttellarty (2) J: Georgia Goodman 00×14 T: Alister Black
Can only but win and that’s exactly what Rakmacknra (9) has done in two career starts to date. Has looked sharp doing it too and is a horse to follow in the coming months. Big step up here, and some luck needed from the draw, but if any comes he’s got the class to make it three-from-three.
Selections: 9-5-1-6-4
9. Rakmacknra (1) J: Nathan Williamson 11 T: Nathan Williamson
Big each way price on offer for Vertigo (5) here fresh up given she’s so reliable. Steps quickly and should land in front of many of her key rivals and looked sharp in an Ashburton trial win last week. A double-figure price is big overs and she’s clearly the best each way play of the week given her career record.
Selections: 5-7-8-6-3
5. Vertigo (5) J: Lawrence McCormick 70796 T: Lawrence McCormick
Another of the Dalgety raiders for the day is Joyride (5) and she should relish getting away from some strong Canterbury company too. Has been good all campaign and often in sharp fields. Nice draw here and a chance to dominate and make this her own.
Selections: 5-8-9-2-4
5. Joyride (5) J: Carter Dalgety 46346 T: Cran & Chrissie Dalgety
