NRL Women Tips & Preview | Round 6

Round 6 has some outstanding matchups that mark the halfway point of the season with the Warriors-Knights clash on Saturday a thrilling Top 6 affair before the Raiders-Broncos on Sunday opens a big slate.

Canterbury Bulldogs Women
vs
North Queensland Cowboys Women
2:45pm Saturday | Belmore Sports Ground, Sydney
North Queensland +7.5 ($1.90)

Neither Canterbury or North Queensland are expected to play finals football this year with both teams rating amongst the worst in the NRLW. So it is surprising to see Canterbury so heavily favoured in this one. The Cowboys won the only meeting between these teams 22-6 and come off a stunning comeback win against the Raiders in Magic Round. The Bulldogs have two wins on the board but they have come against 1-4 St George Illawarra and 1-4 Cronulla. The plus looks too big. Fran Goldthorp is equal leader in Cowboys tries this year with three. She has nine tries in her last 17 games. Monica Tagoai has scored in four of five games this week including last week against the all-conquering Broncos.

Tips

Best: North Queensland +7.5 ($1.90)
Next: North Queensland Win ($2.90)
Tryscorer: Fran Goldthorp ($15 First, $3.30 Anytime)
SGM: Fran Goldthorp Try/Monica Tagoai Try ($8.41)

Cronulla Sharks Women
vs
Gold Coast Titans Women
5:15pm Saturday | Ocean Protect Stadium, Sydney
Gold Coast -6.5 ($1.90)

The Titans have not had a huge amount of success against the Sharks, never scoring more than 10 points and winning just one of the three meetings. Gold Coast are significantly better than Cronulla this year though and have the attack to slice open a Cronulla side that has won just one and has conceded 22-plus in three of their last four. The Sharks are the worst coached and worst prepared team in the NRLW and that bodes poorly against an attack that has scored 34-plus in their three games against teams outside the Top 6. Evania Isa’ako has scored three tries in four games since she shifted to the backrow. Teagan Levi has been a revelation since moving from union, scoring four tries in five games.

Tips

Best: Gold Coast -6.5 ($1.90)
Next: Gold Coast 13+ ($2.75)
Tryscorer: Evania Isa’ako ($14 First, $3.05 Anytime)
SGM: Evania Isa’ako Try/Teagan Levi Try ($9.37)

New Zealand Warriors Women
vs
Newcastle Knights Women
7:15pm Saturday | FMG Stadium Waikato, Hamilton
Newcastle +4.5 ($1.90)

Newcastle have been disrespected by the market all season and have been once again. The Knights have covered both games when favoured this year while they have covered two of the three games they have jumped outsiders, downing the Sharks and going down in a close one to the Roosters. Newcastle have won the only meeting between the teams and look value to win again. Sidney Taylor has settled into her code defection with two tries in her last three games. Ivana Lauititi is comically overpriced every week. She has four tries in 10 games.

Tips

Best: Newcastle +4.5 ($1.90)
Next: Newcastle Win ($2.70)
Tryscorer: Sidney Taylor ($17 First, $3.50 Anytime)
SGM: Sidney Taylor Try/Ivana Lauititi Try ($23.50)

Canberra Raiders Women
vs
Brisbane Broncos Women
1:35pm Sunday | GIO Stadium, Canberra
Over 41.5 ($1.82)

Few teams have put it to Brisbane like Canberra have despite the Raiders not winning any of the three clashes. All three matches have tallied at least 48 points with the Raiders scoring 22 in a 28-22 loss in 2024 and 28 in their 44-28 loss last season. Points have been exceptionally high when these teams meet. Elise Simpson has nine tries in her last 10 games and is a ridiculous price to score. Julia Robinson has scored in all three meetings against the Raiders. Tamika Upton is the all-time leading tryscorer with 53 tries in 55 games.

Tips

Best: Over 41.5 ($1.82)
Next: Over 49.5 ($3.05)
Tryscorer: Elise Simpson ($14 First, $2.85 Anytime)
SGM: Elise Simpson Try/Julia Robinson Try/Tamika Upton Try ($7.80)

St. George Illawarra Dragons Women
vs
Wests Tigers Women
3:35pm Sunday | St George Venues Jubilee Stadium, Kogarah
St George Illawarra +11.5 ($1.90)

The Dragons and the Tigers have historically played tight games so the 11.5 points on offer to be with St George Illawarra looks an excellent bet. All three meetings between these two have had a margin of four or fewer with no game going over 36 combined points. The Dragons got beat by 30 by the Roosters but really weren’t too bad. This line is pumping up the Tigers way too much. Teagan Berry sits second on the all-time tryscoring list with 39. Caitlin Turnbull has nine tries in 14 games since debuting last year.

Tips

Best: St George Illawarra +11.5 ($1.90)
Next: St George Illawarra Win ($3.50)
Tryscorer: Teagan Berry ($9.25 First, $2.05 Anytime)
SGM: Teagan Berry Try/Caitlin Turnbull Try ($4.19)

Sydney Roosters Women
vs
Parramatta Eels Women
8:15pm Sunday | Polytec Stadium, Gosford
Sydney Roosters -33.5 ($1.83)

The biggest mismatch of the season sees the biggest line in NRLW history with the unbeaten Roosters 33.5-point home favourites against the winless Eels. The Roosters have won their last two games by 30-plus and won the last meeting against the Eels by 56-12. The Eels also go into this without halfback Rachael Pearson and star winger Martha Mataele. The Roosters are a chance of running in 60. Tarryn Aiken returns from injury and is a terribly underrated tryscoring option with 15 tries in 29 games at the Roosters including a double when these teams last met. Jayme Fressard is fifth all-time in scoring with Jess Sergis third. Fressard has eight tries in five games this year while Sergis has seven. Sariah Paki has three tries in her last three games.

Tips

Best: Sydney Roosters -33.5 ($1.83)
Next: Sydney Roosters -47.5 ($4.25)
Tryscorer: Tarryn Aiken ($13 First, $2.40 Anytime)
SGM: Tarryn Aiken Try/Jayme Fressard Try/Jess Sergis Try/Sariah Paki Try ($11.27)
