Matt Markham gives his best in all races at Cambridge Harness on Friday 5 June.
Superb win here last time out by Fly High (9) and while this is a step up in grade there’s no reason why back-to-back victories can’t be obtained. The only runner on the second row so should get off the fence straight away and from there will be close enough to speed throughout to launch an attack.
Selections: 9-4-7-6-5
9. Fly High (1) J: Crystal Hackett 04291 T: Barry Purdon & Scott Phelan
Came out of the gate neutral last time out and then had to do it tough but couldn’t find any extra. Go back a few starts and Prince Lincoln (2) showed his real worth with a dominant all-the-way win. Maps to perhaps look to do that again and if he can set his own terms, then they’ll be chasing him throughout.
Selections: 2-3-4-5-9
2. Prince Lincoln (2) J: Matthew White 21078 T: Ray Green & Nathan Delany
With a bit of race experience now under the belt, expect a sharper version of Major Copy (1) to emerge tonight compared to what we saw on debut. Spruiked as a handy one going forward, he lands the perfect draw to showcase that here and if able to control things, may be too good.
Selections: 1-6-5-3-13
1. Major Copy (1) J: Maurice McKendry 7 T: Ray Green & Nathan Delany
Some really handy form up the road recently from Shes All Legs (8) and that should stack up pretty well here. Generally just gets out and trots and with a few in here that are prone to the odd mistake, there could well be an opportunity to make the most of. Going well enough to win.
Selections: 8-12-13-10-5
8. Shes All Legs (8) J: Peter Ferguson 22336 T: Peter & Vaughan Blanchard
Some really nice formlines around Siracha (2) in the last two runs, one behind Sammy Lincoln, the other behind Fly High, both of whom would start short order favourites here. Good draw to use too and will look to make the most of it. On the speed and out of trouble, he’s the one to beat.
Selections: 2-12-10-17
2. Sriracha (2) J: Anthony Butt 8024 T: Steve & Amanda Telfer
Doesn’t win them out of turn does Barsukov (3) but when on the job and up near the speed can be quite a talented trotter. Maps to get the right kind of run tonight as long as the manners are there and him out and trucking at the 400m and putting rivals to the sword would be no surprise.
Selections: 3-4-7-1-6
3. Barsukov (3) J: Emily Johnson 73671 T: Luk Chin
There was a quality about the maiden win of Ride The Waves (1) at Auckland last month that suggested she’s a filly to keep an eye on going forward. Did it really nicely and looked good in the process. She’ll get better and better with racing but from the inside draw tonight might get there on class alone.
Selections: 1-5-8-9-6
1. Ride The Waves (1) J: Anthony Butt 1 T: Steve & Amanda Telfer
Getting back behind the mobile arm here tonight can be of huge benefit to Lincoln Wave (5) never looked comfy from the stand last week and was out of play from the moment he missed the kick. Big win here on the Night Of Champions still burns in the memory and should get back on track tonight.
Selections: 5-1-7-10-8
5. Lincoln Wave (5) J: Maurice McKendry 12839 T: Ray Green & Nathan Delany
A risky proposition at the best of times, Loteria (8) does possess a very big motor and in a fresh state tonight if the manners are there, could be too slick for them. Everything hinges on those first few hundred metres but with a good getaway is well in contention.
Selections: 8-9-5-2-1
8. Loteria (8) J: Josh Dickie 4203x T: Sammy Kilgour
The trickiest race of the night this one, but Franco Miki (7) has done nothing wrong of late and deserves another winning turn. A wide draw makes it tricky, but there’s no real standouts here and should be good enough to make the own luck from out there. A nice each way bet.
Selections: 7-3-14-11-13
7. Franco Miki (7) J: David Butcher 29634 T: David Butcher
Some really nice work of late from Grace N Elegance (9) and a lot of it has come in fields much stronger than this. Needs to be tucked up and saved for the one crack but with the right amount of luck here tonight can have the final say and grab another victory.
Selections: 9-11-7-6-5
9. Grace N Elegance (9) J: Holly Moralde Sands 84613 T: Michelle Wallis & Bernie Hackett
