Matt Markham gives his best in all races at Addington Harness on Sunday, June 7.
Quite possibly the dropback horse of the harness racing weekend here, Foliejon Star (5) was super in a great grade race here two Friday night’s ago and in general has been racing super. Has high speed when saved up for one run, but showed last time that leading isn’t out of reach either. A great bet to start the day.
Selections: 5-7-6-9-3
5. Foliejon Star (5) J: Colleen Negus 75122T: Bruce Negus
Last chance saloon for The River Boy (10) today. If he’s to win again, it’s going to be in this race which is a massive step down from most of his recent racing. Capable on his day and might just able to be driven for the one cold shot at them and he’ll storm home for the win.
Selections: 10-9-5-11-8
10. The River Boy (10) J: Bob Butt x7800T: Bob Butt
A long time maiden is Tuppence (1) but some of the recent form has been the best ever and a win looks so close at hand. Great draw here today to use and with a sweet trip on the markers can really dash a quarter which nothing else in this field would be able to go with.
Selections: 1-4-11-7-2
1. Tuppence (1) J: Gemma Thornley 427×2T: Brian Fahey
Off the back of some really good trial form, Always B Mindful (5) comes out of a really strong debut race at Timaru. Tee Ball, who finished second, has since one franking the form as well. Good manners so should ping across and be handy throughout and good enough to win this.
Selections: 5-10-13-1-3
5. Always B Mindful (5) J: John Morrison 3T: Kevin Williams
A really tidy effort first up from a spell here last Friday night by Impressive Shard (2). That was in a good field too. Lands a handy draw in a more wide open contest today and should be driven confidently. Wouldn’t need to go much better than the first up run to win.
Selections: 2-4-11-1-8
2. Impressive Shard (2) J: Jonny Cox 509×5T: Brad Mowbray
Really starting to put it all together now is Calmbeforethestorm (8) and was solid as in a good field here 10 days ago. Has a nice turn of speed and if able to find clear air at the right time should run on by this field without too much fuss.
Selections: 8-11-5-3-1
8. Calmbeforethestorm (8) J: Gerard O’Reilly 23435T: Terry McMillan
Not a lot of luck lately for Rovert Decision (1) but a nice wee upgrade in fortunes here with the one barrier. Should be able to hold out enough early to find the back of a good one and with a sweet trip on the markers is more than good enough to win a race like this.
Selections: 1-7-8-9-2
1. Rovert Decision (1) J: Olivia Thornley 03567T: Michael Ward
A really nice type from the Regan Todd barn, Third Party (7) resumes here after showing some promise in the first campaign. Won on debut and then took on some really nice types next up. Has had two trials to prepare and on natural ability should have the measure of most of this field.
Selections: 7-10-11-12-2
7. Third Party (7) J: Robbie Close 10xT: Regan Todd
Stayed out of the early rush at Ashburton and then joined in at the 800m mark and put rivals to the sword and there’s no reason why Wanna Play A Game (11) won’t offer up more of the same here today either. In the zone and trotting well and has the wood on most of the rivals here.
Selections: 11-2-5-3-9
11. Wanna Play A Game (2) J: Samantha Ottley 35531T: Mark Jones
Steps out of a red hot field here 10 days ago on Friday night behind Joyride does Auntie Deb (8) and made up a lot of ground late in that in a quickly run last 800m. They won’t go anywhere near as quick here and with the right kind of run, looks a good bet.
Selections: 8-12-11-1-14
8. Auntie Deb (8) J: Blair Orange 53034T: Andrew Faulks
An inside draw is a huge boost to the chances of Midnight Sophia (1) here. She’s speedy enough to hold up early and perhaps take a sit behind the right one before slingshotting her way up the lane. Not a deep field either so looks a really strong chance in an even field.
Selections: 1-7-11-8-2
1. Midnight Sophia (1) J: Sheree Tomlinson 95945T: Brad Mowbray
