Matt Markham gives his best in all races at Rangiora on Sunday 3 May.
Back in form last time out with a bold second and Four Wise Women (8) should really go right on with it now after that. Finds another very winnable race here today and if able to get down to the markers at some stage looks the horse they will all need to beat.
Selections: 8-1-6-7-4
8. Four Wise Women (8) J: Tim Williams 4×902T: Craig & Aimee Edmonds
Sat off the speed at Addington on Wednesday and really charged late did Hugo (8), only just coming up short behind Lasa. This looks well within range today and a good tempo up front will bring him right into play late in proceedings.
Selections: 8-4-9-7-3
8. Hugo (8) J: Sam Thornley 93572T: John McDermott
Got away OK last week but then panicked a bit after a few hundred metres and that was the end of Ellegator El (10). Experience is going to be a great friend and over time will develop into quite a nice trotter. Big chance if the manners are there this week.
Selections: 10-6-1-15-2
10. Ellagator Al (10) J: Blair Orange pT: Bob Butt
Big money came last week on debut and while beaten a big margin, the benefit of a race will have done wonders for Hokie Pokie (1). Lands the ace draw tonight and will look to make the most of it and if he’s up on the speed and bowling they might not be able to peg him back.
Selections: 1-5-9-12-2
1. Hokie Pokie (1) J: Anthony Butt 4T: Grant Crabbe
A really smart trial on Tuesday from Deal Breaker (6) suggest a strong return is well on the cards here today. Sped to the lead there and then burst up the lane to win really nicely. Might have to work to get there today but a big hope if the right run unfolds.
Selections: 6-7-1-13-12
6. Deal Breaker (6) J: Robbie Close 750xT: Stephen Boyd
Found the front here last week and looked set to dominate but a bit of pressure from another runner put Johnny Trotter (4) off stride. All the prior form down in Canterbury had been great and gets a real chance to atone here today if the manners play ball.
Selections: 4-12-5-10-1
4. Johnny Trotter (4) J: Tim Williams x0120T: Robert & Jenna Dunn
Showed real gate speed last week to get across them early and then was great up the passing lane late in the piece. Shards Lyric (8) is really starting to get the hang of racing and if she brings the same kind of form again this week then she’ll be hard to beat in this line up.
Selections: 8-2-7-1-3
8. Shards Lyric (8) J: Sarah O’Reilly 49102T: Brent & Tim White
A lovely staying type of three-year-old, Ashley Frank (9) has been great in both runs back this time in and will hunt three in a row today. Wide draw to contend with and a sharp field to face but will get into the contest at some point and look to put them to the sword. Not many will out-tough him.
Selections: 9-6-8-4-3
9. Ashley Frank (9) J: Blair Orange 5×11T: Hayden & Amanda Cullen
Not a lot of luck in recent times for Foliejon Star (7) but finds the right kind of race today to turn all that around. Should ping out pretty quickly and find a nice spot and with the right kind of trip has a bit of speed to try and run them all down.
Selections: 7-4-5-6-9
7. Foliejon Star (7) J: Sheree Tomlinson 70275T: Ken Ford & Amanda Tomlinson
Charging through the line late at Addington last start, Our Pinocchio (10) isn’t a horse you’d want to play cards with but on the right day in the right mood, there’s ability there. Needs to do everything right but with a complete performance can play a major role here.
Selections: 10-8-4-5-9
10. Our Pinocchio (10) J: Kyle Cameron 40006T: Matthew Williamson
A few bad draws and some bad luck in running lately for Better Be Quick (4) but what a great opportunity to get a win back on the board here today. Nice draw to use and the right man in the bike. Will get every chance to make something happen and can win.
Selections: 4-11-2-1-7
4. Better Be Quick (4) J: Blair Orange 75520T: Robert & Jenna Dunn
