Madame Kleptomane (#5) produced a much improved effort for 2nd at Ellerslie last start, where she came from well back and only went down a narrow margin late. She should take further improvement from that run and looks well suited stepping up slightly in trip third-up. The more favourable draw should allow her to settle much closer in transit this time around also. She produced a peak figure third-up last preparation, and if she finds that same level again she will take plenty of beating. 

Delz Abeel (#2) is a very capable synthetic track performer, boasting three wins and a placing from four starts at this track. His last start 8th at Te Rapa is best forgiven, given he was trapped wide throughout in a race run ~4.5L faster than open class standard to the 600m mark. Back on the polytrack suits ideally and despite the wider draw, he maps to roll forward and settle in a handy position throughout. His track record speaks for itself and this looks a great opportunity for him to return to winning form. 

Miss Moet All (#8) comes here off a very solid effort for 2nd at Te Rapa behind General Menari, where she fought on gamely over 1200m. While the rise to 1300m is a slight query, she maps to control the race from the front from the inside draw, particularly if Shez Shamus doesn’t take her place. If Tayla Mitchell can dictate terms and pinch a breather mid-race, she may prove very difficult to reel in late. 

Altiplano (#1) heads into this third-up after a good run for 2nd at Ellerslie, where he enjoyed a soft run near the speed before finishing off well late. The return to the synthetic surface looks a key positive given his prior efforts at this track. He maps to settle in a forward position again and should get every opportunity to finish over the top late. There wasn’t much between him and Proud Capitalist for mine, making him the more appealing option at the price. 

Anton (#3) resumes here after last being seen at Rotorua in December. He comes into this without a public trial, although that is not unusual for him given he won first-up without a trial at this course and distance last campaign. He maps to settle in a handy position from the middle draw, which should see him given every conceivable chance to run a good race fresh. 

Fat Albert (#1) resumes for the Cornege stable after a disappointing effort at Te Rapa to end his previous campaign. He maps to get back from the wide draw in what looks a genuinely run 970m contest and if they overdo things up front, he could be one charging home over the top late at odds. No public trial under his belt is a slight concern but happy to be in his corner at the price. 

Lovaci (#1) was fair at Rotorua last start when beaten 2.4L into 6th, but her win prior on testing ground was very impressive. She returns to the synthetic surface for the first time in nearly two years, although she performed well at her previous attempt and has the added advantage of being trained here. From the low draw she should secure a soft run just off the speed and looks well placed to see out the 2000m under Jack Taplin. 

Unodostrescuatro (#13) looks the standout runner in this maiden staying contest, having placed in six of his 11 career starts. He resumed with a fair effort at Ellerslie over 1400m where he had to work early to settle outside the leader. This looks a much weaker maiden lineup than what he has previously contested, and if he handles the synthetic surface, he shapes as a major winning chance.
