Sandown Tips & Preview | Wednesday 15 April

Eight races line up at Sandown Lakeside this Wednesday.

It’s been a wet lead-in, with the track currently sitting in the Soft 6 range and further showers forecast, while the rail stays out seven metres.

To point you in the right direction, we’ve assessed the full card at Sandown in our preview below.

Race 1 – Sportsbet Jockey Watch Plate (1400 METRES)
No. 8 Let Lily Loose

LET LILY LOOSE (8) gets Mark Zahra on board looking to improve on a solid first-up run for third at Bendigo over shorter.

The daughter to Savabeel was caught wide after overracing in the early stages and appeared to lack the necessary speed to run on when the whips started to crack.

She’s drawn a nice soft gate on this occasion though, and looks ready to run a big race with the extra 100m suiting.

Race 2 – Stow Storage Solutions Handicap (3000 METRES)
No. 2 Highland Blaze

HIGHLAND BLAZE (2) is a talented staying type with a good stack of wet track form to his name.

It’s been a while between drinks for Shane Jackson’s gelding, but he was far from disgraced in a tougher race at Flemington first-up when beaten three lengths at Stakes level over 2600m.

He’ll have his sights set on the upcoming Warrnambool Carnival, but a win here isn’t out of the question with improvement still to come.

Race 3 – MRC Foundation National Apprentice Race Series Heat 9 (1600 METRES)
No. 9 Move The Torana

MOVE THE TORANA (9) is racing well enough to give an open race like this over the mile a good shake.

She was a strong winner two back at Geelong over slightly further, coming from a ways back with a well-timed run to find the front over the final furlong and win well.

The wide run in her latest start a couple of weeks ago told when she was forced to settle for third, but there’s a bit more to like about her here with the claim and the soft gate working in her favour.

Race 4 – VJA Ranvet National Apprentice Race Series Heat 10 (1200 METRES)
No. 9 Persian Caviar

PERSIAN CAVIAR (9) should be better for her first-up run a few weeks ago where she was the beaten favourite over the track and trip.

She just lacked the dash to go with the likes of Shaime when the going got tough over the final 200m, settling for third in the end beaten just over two lengths.

The daughter to Written Tycoon meets her stablemate Conflict better off at the weights on Wednesday and with that fresh run over 1200m perhaps proving a little too sharp, she should be better for the effort.

Race 5 – Tobin Brothers Celebrating Lives Handicap (2100 METRES)
No. 13 So Suave

SO SUAVE (13) has the low gate and Craig Williams working in his favour.

He should also be racing with a bit of confidence coming off a win at Cranbourne a few weeks ago on a wet track, going a length clear after racing four-wide the trip throughout.

There’s no knock on his fitness deep into his prep and with some nice wet track form, he should be tough to hold out if he gets the right ride coming off the speed.

Race 6 – Sportsbet Get On Extra Handicap (1000 METRES)
No. 8 Tres Magnifique
Tip of The Day

The short favourite TRES MAGNIFIQUE (8) looks very hard to beat here second-up.

The filly by I Am Invincible put paid to her rivals by seven lengths at Bendigo on return last month, shuffling across early from the wide gate to find the front and let down with a serious turn of foot.

She’s still got stacks of improvement to come and providing she isn’t wanting longer this time, she’ll be incredibly hard ot beat.

Race 7 – ive > Handicap (1400 METRES)
No. 5 Chowdown

CHOWDOWN (5) still has improvement to come third-up for Charlotte Littlefield.

This lightly-raced three-year-old handled the heavy track at Flemington rather well last start over the same trip, just finding Exit a tough too good over the late stages when his fitness gave way.

He’s in niely here with only 55kg on his back and should appreciate more of a genuine tempo this time as he looks to set up in behind the speed.

Race 8 – Sportsbet Same Race Multi Handicap (1400 METRES)
No. 3 Flying Mikki
Each Way

FLYING MIKKI (3) is a definite each-way chance for David Noonan and company.

It’s been a long time since he tasted a win but he did go close a few weeks ago here on the Lakeside track, leading for most of the way before being gunned down and forced to settle for third.

The inside gate cost him some running room when beaten 11 lengths at Ballarat last start, but he looks better suited here with more room afforded from barrier 5. Capable of handling a wet track, a bounce back effort wouldn’t shock.
