Matt Markham gives his best in all races at Palmerston North Harness on Tuesday 28 April.
A first starter from the Stephen Doody stable, Takethat (2) comes to tonight’s meeting with a very tidy trial win under the belt. Beat a smart one in that and looks a quick maiden winner. Not a strong field here and drawn to be on the speed throughout and hard to beat.
Selections: 2-1-3-7-4
2. Takethat (2) J: Andre Poutama 1 T: Stephen Doody
Third up from a decent spell tonight and down from the north after a good third at Cambridge last time out, Travelin Soldier (7) looks well placed here. Needs to bring the manners but a small field and a bit of room on the 20m handicap should help there.
Selections: 7-2-6-3-1
7. Travelin Soldier (7) J: Tony Cameron 0x032 T: Tony Herlihy
Talented pacer He’s Not That Into You (3) kicks off a new campaign here after a spell with two quiet trials under the belt. Threw away a victory at Alexandra Park on debut and then was very green in start No.2. Best version here from the handy draw should be winning.
Selections: 3-5-7-1-8
3. Hes Not That Into U (3) J: Tony Cameron 27×3 T: Tony Herlihy
Talented three-year-old Critical Image (5) escapes some strong recent racing up the island and finds what should really be an easy kill here today. Is simply just better than anything else in this line up and will relish the significant drop in class. Won’t get you rich, but a nice add to the multis.
Selections: 5-1-4-2-9
5. Critical Image (5) J: Andre Poutama 46772 T: Arna Donnelly
Nice race for Very Majestic (6) to sneak down here and chase. She’s a chance of catching the start really well and rushing forward to find a good spot. In front or just off the speed over the short distance, she’ll be hard to stop in what is a good field.
Selections: 6-7-9-2-1
6. Very Majestic (6) J: Peter Ferguson 12452 T: Robert & Jenna Dunn
Steps out of maidens for the first time here tonight after a super maiden victory here on the track earlier this month. Won with a bit in store and in a wide open field the next up grade doesn’t look to imposing. Can find a good spot and be a major player.
Selections: 3-6-2-4-8
3. Manavue (3) J: Andre Poutama x4514 T: Stephen Doody
Nice price on offer for a horse of Melton Mogul’s (7) talent here. Has been a bit of revelation since arriving in the north and was a huge third last time out in a strong country cup at Cambridge on The Night Of Champions. This a whole lot easier and even off the handicap looks a major player.
Selections: 7-8-2-4-5
7. Melton Mogul (7) J: Andre Poutama 11632 T: Scott Dickson
Has found a bit of a purple patch of form in recent times Mr Miki (6) and returns to the Manawatu where he’s two-from-two. Big run for third in a good field at The Park last time out and was charging at the finish. Just needs the right luck and can win here again.
Selections: 6-7-2-8-1
6. Mr Miki (6) J: Sailesh Abernethy 81133 T: Brendon Laidlaw
