Matt Markham gives his best in all races at Motukarara Harness on Monday 6 April.
Three really strong efforts from Mattie Nevin (4) since resuming from a spell and finds a pretty nice race for the next assignment here. Has a lot of high speed and if able to find a helmet to follow and then unleash they might not be able to deny her late.
Selections: 4-3-8-6-9
4. Mattie Nevin (4) J: Samantha Ottley 71283 T: Mark Jones
He’s done a good job in the career so far but a recent trial win by Johnny Trotter (5) suggested that he’s ready to really knuckle down and be a serious race horse. Was very sharp that day and looked an early winner. Big field here, but well in commission.
Selections: 5-1-3-4-13
5. Johnny Trotter (5) J: John Dunn 2333x T: Robert & Jenna Dunn
Sharp turn around in form by Mama’s Crunch (8) at Ashburton last time out. Really found the line with purpose late. She’ll keep improving off that too and this isn’t a huge step up from the midweek grade so would expect her to be driven confidently and hard to beat.
Selections: 8-3-5-4-7
8. Mamas Crunch (8) J: Tim Williams 50×72 T: Steve & Amanda Telfer
Looked to be winding up late at Timaru on Wednesday, but the gap closed on Ruthless Emma (7) and she went to the line under a hold. Talented trotter on her day and this is a wide open trotting affair. No surprise to see her land in a good spot and win this at a really nice price.
Selections: 7-11-1-5-6
7. Ruthless Emma (7) J: Anj Mugford 0x067 T: Anj Mugford
Got things a little wrong on the home bend at Addington 10 days ago, but There He Goes (14) managed to pick himself up and run through the line strong for second. Off the second row here in a big field but has the ability to make his own luck and will win a maiden very quickly.
Selections: 14-5-6-10-13
14. There He Goes (14) J: Sam Thornley 452 T: Sam Thornley
Handy run first up for the new barn at Addington by Mostert (1) and that was in a far strong field than this one. Better for the run, lands the ace draw and gets Carter Dalgety in the bike. He’s likely to lead up here and try and run them into the deck. Can do it too.
Selections: 1-7-12-4-2
1. Mostert (1) J: Carter Dalgety 100×6 T: Bronson Munro
Was set to go close at Rangiora last week before galloping late so Kawatiri Trev (1) will be out for redemption here. Talented trotter with it all in front of him and if he can ping away again and land a forward spot then he becomes very hard to beat in this line up.
Selections: 1-5-13-4-3
1. Kawatiri Trev (1) J: Bob Butt 10 T: Paul Nairn
Spotted sneaking home with a bit of intent at Rangiora last week, Red Wine Kisses (5) finds a very winnable race here today from a handy enough draw. Should slide across and find a good spot and with any kind of luck looks a decent each way play in a wide open field.
Selections: 5-13-7-11-8
5. Red Wine Kisses (5) J: Jim Curtin 63096 T: Jim Curtin
Very sharp winning the Chertsey Cup last weekend at Ashburton, To Ri Ruby (2) might slip under the radar a little here. Loves the track and loves the grass and looked pretty ready to run a big race. Just needs to find herself a nice trip off the front line and she’ll be well in play.
Selections: 2-13-4-6-5
2. To Ri Ruby (2) J: Kimberly Butt 15910 T: Simon Adlam
Impressive last start win by Luvavici (3) but the trial performance since was perhaps even better. Balanced up and charged late to win impressively and looks in for a good autumn. Manners, as always the key, but more than capable of winning this race if things pan out.
Selections: 3-9-5-10-2
3. Luvavici (3) J: Stacy Whatuira 0x351 T: Paul Nairn
No shame in defeat for Rocking Ruby (5) at Rangiora last week, beaten by a pretty smart one who had the right trip. Better for the experience again and with a good draw to use if likely to roll forward once more and look to control things. Good field though, so not past the post.
Selections: 5-6-14-12-2
5. Rocking Ruby (5) J: Carter Dalgety 12 T: Cran & Chrissie Dalgety
