Matt Markham gives his best in all races at Cambridge Harness on Thursday 23 April.
Nice bit of relief here for Twist And Tango (6) tonight after taking on some strong fields in the last two. Best pointer to this is the win three starts back. Something similar to that here and should be right in the fight for a very long way.
Selections: 6-2-8-5-4
6. Twist And Tango (6) J: Zachary Butcher 5×160T: Barry Purdon & Scott Phelan
Didn’t get a chance to get warm really when last produced here on the Night Of Champions, but the prior form of Romeo Foxtrot (9) had been very encouraging and paints a nice picture here tonight. 35m handicap is a small concern but begins well so should eat that up quickly.
Selections: 9-3-7-5-4
9. Romeo Foxtrot (9) J: Harrison Orange 14827T: Susan Branch
Too good for them here last week after working to the lead and Lexington Queen (3) should be heading in the exact same direction this week too. Pretty promising pacer and if able to find the markers cheaply then could stack them up and sprint home making it hard for those chasing in behind.
Selections: 3-7-2-1-4
3. Lexington Queen (3) J: Andre Poutama 7×241T: Peter & Vaughan Blanchard
Not a bad effort first up in the north last time out from Superfast Lady (5) and expect her to take some confidence from that run. Even enough field to deal with an if able to get away from the stand start well then should land in the right places to be a contender in this.
Selections: 5-2-4-6-8
5. Superfast Lady (5) J: Peter Ferguson 590×5T: Jason Teaz
Really encouraging first up run from Special Occasion (2) here on the Night Of Champions and is sure to have taken plenty of positive benefit from that performance. Touted as a very good horse early on in the career and may well still prove that right but would want to be winning this.
Selections: 2-3-7-4-1
2. Special Occasion (2) J: Mark Purdon 780×3T: Nathan Purdon
An intriguing addition to the Barry Purdon and Scott Phelan barn here is He’s Tough (8). Best days are clearly behind him but the stable is known for doing great things with older horses and it would be a surprise to see him show fresh legs here from the new quarters.
Selections: 8-6-7-4-5
8. He’s Tough (8) J: Harrison Orange 30148T: Barry Purdon & Scott Phelan
Handy enough run last time out from Kamilla (8) and should end up doing a nice job here in the north. Manners will be the key, but with them tonight should be well in play in what is a very even field of maiden trotters.
Selections: 8-2-4-3-5
8. Kamilla (8) J: Ollie Gregory xpx75T: Michelle Wallis & Bernie Hackett
