Matt Markham gives his best in all races at Alexandra Park Harness on Friday 17 April.
Third up from a spell tonight and off the back of a cracking second when last produced, talented three-year-old filly Black Beauty (7) looks primed for success tonight. Has a big season ahead of her and is still on the way up, but even from the wide draw should be able to find the right spot to be a major factor.
Selections: 7-8-1-11-10
7. Black Beauty (7) J: Matthew White 21×82T: Matthew White
In the North Island’s lower trotting grades right now there are few as progressive as Final Approach (8) a winner of three from four this campaign, there’s a big future in store. A few weeks in between runs, but his high speed will carry him a very long way in this line up.
Selections: 8-9-6-1-7
8. Final Approach (8) J: Crystal Hackett x1101T: Michelle Wallis & Bernie Hackett
He can do the odd thing wrong at times but when Iron Mike Tyson (8) is on the job he’s a very talented pacer and seeing him give this field a bit of a pacing lesson would come as no surprise. He does come with a warning though given some of his past indiscretions, but a complete round and he’ll be the one to beat.
Selections: 8-4-10-3-6
| 8. Iron Mike Tyson (8) Scratched: | |||
He steps out at the races tonight with a big reputation and an even bigger price tag but everything about Duke Of Bourbon (5) suggests he’s going to be a very nice horse going forward. Nothing spectacular in his trials but they’ve been good steady progressions from one to the next. On class, he’ll win tonight.
Selections: 5-8-7-1-3
5. Duke Of Bourbon (5) J: Scott Phelan T: Barry Purdon & Scott Phelan
You’d nearly have gone both broke and bald by backing Sammy Lincoln (7) in all of his career starts to date but each time you’d have walked away thinking you’ll get him next time. The motor isn’t in doubt, the ringcraft is getting there and now he just needs that little bit of luck. Tonight looks his night.
Selections: 7-4-5-9-8
7. Sammy Lincoln (7) J: Harrison Orange d3234T: Ray Green & Nathan Delany
A talented trotter from the Tony Herlihy barn, Overwatch (5) resumes from a spell here after creating an impression in the first campaign. Given some time and two good public runs to ready for this should have him primed. Will get better with racing but good enough to win this.
Selections: 5-9-8-7-3
5. Overwatch (5) J: Tony Herlihy 14xT: Tony Herlihy
That first up run will have brought Sugar Ray Lincoln (4) on beautifully for tonight and a return to Alexandra Park with the fitness improved is just what he needs to win this race. Will likely have to do it tough, but can handle that no worries.
Selections: 4-1-6-5-3
4. Sugar Ray Lincoln (4) J: Peter Ferguson 459×7T: Ray Green & Nathan Delany
The best of a chasing bunch behind a clearly very talented stablemate last time, Flossy Pops (12) looks a live chance to go one better if she can repeat the effort. Big motor there and will keep getting better with racing but is more than good enough to handle the big field here.
Selections: 12-9-2-16-6
12. Flossy Pops (12) J: Bernie Hackett 8×2T: Michelle Wallis & Bernie Hackett
An impressive winner in a pretty similar kind of race last time here, Chanel Noire (3) is unsurprisingly heavily favoured to repeat tonight. High speed is her biggest asset, so if she can find a helmet to follow and then be allowed to unleash she should really win again.
Selections: 3-5-2-4-7
3. Chanel Noire (3) J: Harrison Orange x1351T: Barry Purdon & Scott Phelan
Don’t know if too many in this line up would be able to match Paradise Ali (8) for natural ability. It’s all there, often the own worst enemy though which is a little concerning. Drops out of better races than this recently though and just needs to be close enough turning for home.
Selections: 8-5-3-4-7
8. Paradise Ali (8) J: Crystal Hackett 02054T: Michelle Wallis & Bernie Hackett
