Matt Markham gives his best in all races at Addington Harness on Sunday 19 April.
He won with a leg in the air and both eyes closed at Methven last week and while Johnny Trotter (9) faces a step up in grade here today, he has the ability to handle it without too many issues. Just needs to get things right early and from there he’ll be the one to beat.
Selections: 9-12-5-8-2
9. Johnny Trotter (9) J: John Dunn 33×01 T: Robert & Jenna Dunn
A nice each way play here around Always B Hayley (5). She’s been good in some strong fields of late and has been coming from horror draws too. Much better suited here and should be on the speed and out of trouble and well worth an each way play.
Selections: 5-8-6-9-4
5. Always B Hayley (5) J: Samantha Ottley x2447 T: John Howe
A return to the mobile here can turn things right around Four Wise Women (7). Looks set to role forward from the wider draw and find a top end position. Best version would be too good for this field and looks a great play in this field.
Selections: 7-12-10-11-9
7. Four Wise Women (7) J: Tim Williams 44×90 T: Craig & Aimee Edmonds
Some really smart trial form on the board from debutant Mossdale Marie (6) ahead of this. Has looked well schooled and a quite rounded race horse who is capable of doing it a number of ways. Finds a very winnable maiden and will be hard to beat.
Selections: 6-5-8-13-3
6. Mossdale Marie (6) J: Ben Hope T: Greg & Ben Hope
Doesn’t win race out of turn, but Radioactive Jaffa (9) rarely runs a bad race. Big run for second here two starts back and anything close to that in this line up would be enough to be winning here in what is a very wide open field.
Selections: 9-5-2-8-7
9. Radioactive Jaffa (9) J: Ricky May 22424 T: Russell Kennedy
You can’t be much better than two from two at the track and Gottagoodfeeling (2) has been smart in both victories to date. With experience on side and a good draw to work from there’s plenty in the argument to suggest that three-from-three will be the outcome of today.
Selections: 2-6-4-5-3
2. Gottagoodfeeling (2) J: Sam Thornley 11 T: Ken Barron
Good stand start manners and a handy draw bring Foliejon Star (2) right into play. Racing well and looks a strong hope in this line up if able to find the markers early and from there grab the right kind of trip to unleash on them late.
Selections: 2-9-11-7-5
2. Foliejon Star (2) J: Sheree Tomlinson 91702 T: Ken Ford & Amanda Tomlinson
One of the finds of the country cup scene over the past six months, It’s Tough (7) looks to add another to the tally here and should really do so too. Tough and can hold the speed for a long way, if he finds his way onto the top end then they’ll do well to get close, let alone beat him.
Selections: 7-5-1-6-4
7. It’s Tough (7) J: John Dunn 11121 T: Robert & Jenna Dunn
Put it all together and won for fun here last time, albeit in a lower grade. No surprise though if The Merc (3) steps out here today and delivers something similar. Has a motor, but a bag of tricks to go with it. Mobile conditions should help with the manners and the good draw is a big boost.
Selections: 3-9-4-8-5
3. The Merc (3) J: Carter Dalgety 09341 T: Cran & Chrissie Dalgety
Tidy run last week in the Mt Hutt Cup at Methven by Tanzania (11) and this looks a decent slide down in grade today from the tougher country cups scene. Good stand start manners so should be handy to the speed and with any luck at all will be a big chance.
Selections: 11-8-7-10-13
11. Tanzania (11) J: John Morrison 66805 T: Laurence Hanrahan
No real standout here, but Zoom X (6) has probably shown the most in the career to date and he hasn’t had all the luck in the world of late either. Might look to take luck out of the equation here today and if he finds the front then he becomes the clear horse to beat.
Selections: 6-3-12-8-14
6. Zoom X (6) J: Samantha Ottley 80207 T: Mark Jones
