Matt Markham gives his best in all races at Rangiora on Sunday 29 March.
A tidy start to the career with an impressive maiden win at The Mot a fortnight ago and Rocking Ruby (5) looks more than capable of going back-to-back up in grade too. Nice draw to use and unlikely to leave things to chance so hard to beat.
Selections: 5-7-4-10-8
5. Rocking Ruby (5) J: Bob Butt 1T: Cran & Chrissie Dalgety
Still looking for the gaps to come at Methven last week and it’s unlikely that we’ll see Wot Up Tyron (7) unlucky again here. Manners are good, so should jump straight onto the speed and look to hold that position and is good enough to hold them all off too.
Selections: 7-8-6-5-4
7. Wot Up Tyron (7) J: John Dunn x9625T: Robert & Jenna Dunn
Really good work of late from Girls Night Out (3). She’s been doing work and not afraid to stick the nose out and fight all the way to the line. Prime chance here for her today to push forward and take control of this race and with her own terms, then she’s well in commission.
Selections: 3-5-4-1-2
3. Girl’s Night Out (3) J: Sam Thornley 42345T: Robbie Holmes
There was an air of arrogance about the maiden win of Kawatiri Trev (5) at Westport earlier in the month and it signalled there is plenty ahead. Steps up in grade here, but has all the ability required to pretty quickly grab another win and if able to find the front today then would be hard to stop.
Selections: 5-1-8-12-2
5. Kawatiri Trev (5) J: Bob Butt 1T: Paul Nairn
Super run from well back at Methven last week by Audacity (6) and if anything he should be better for that run. Small field suits and he does love the Rangiora grass track. Expect him to be charging home again here and hard to hold out.
Selections: 6-7-2-3-4
6. Audacity (1) J: Ross Cameron 43254T: Steve Harding
One of the more exciting up and coming trotters in Canterbury at the moment Lauzelle (7) made it all look a little too easy at Motukarara. Won with plenty in store after working wide and from well back on the home bend. Still learning but has a bright future and can win again.
Selections: 7-4-9-1-8
7. Lauzelle (0) J: Leo O’Reilly 1191T: Stephen Williams
Only going to be better for the excellent second last week at Addington behind Got The Chocolates and It’s Tough (4) looks really tough to try and roll here. Stand manners are great and doesn’t mind the grass so if he steps to the front then expect him to still be there when they get to the winning post.
Selections: 4-3-7-6-5
4. It’s Tough (2) J: John Dunn 31112T: Robert & Jenna Dunn
Some nice work of late from Franco Tim (4) he’s really raced himself into some good form. Has gate speed so the barrier draw plays into hand and if he could find the markers and then the back of the right horse, he’ll be a strong each way chance late here.
Selections: 4-10-5-1-15
4. Franco Tim (4) J: Gemma Thornley 99533T: Chris Thornley
Found a well overdue win at Methven last week and given she’d got low down in the ratings, there’s no massive jump here for Holly Highlander (7). Manners are great and if she can produce something similar to what she did last week then she’ll go close again.
Selections: 7-10-14-13-1
7. Holly Highlander (7) J: Samantha Ottley 32221T: Kevin Fairbairn
A lot to like about the recent runs of Style Council (3) he made up a lot of ground late at Methven from a tricky draw. Much better marble to use here, so if he can land handier to the speed then he’s going well enough to be a strong winning chance in this.
Selections: 3-5-7-12-2
3. Style Council (3) J: Kyle Cameron 26745T: Kyle Cameron
