Matt Markham gives his best in all races at Motukarara Harness on Sunday 15 March.
With the runs on the board, good runs at that too, Logan Rock (3) kind of picks himself in a wide open race here. Handy on both days at Westport and never too far away from the action in general, he should end up in a strong spot from which to launch a claim on this race.
Selections: 3-2-4-6-1
3. Logan Rock (3) J: Robbie Close 53752T: Andrew Stuart
A really nice trotter in the making here in Beyond Expectations (6). Given two runs to open the career and then sent for a good spell. No workouts or trials to speak of but will be ready enough from an astute stable. Not a deep maiden either, so with manners goes close.
Selections: 6-9-12-4-1
6. Beyond Expectations (6) J: Justin Smith 63xT: Justin Smith
A first starter from the Dalgety barn on a Sunday on the grass always grabs the attention but Rocking Ruby (6) brings some tidy workout and trial form forward with her as well and from a handy enough front line draw in an even field, you’d expect her to be quite hard to beat today.
Selections: 6-3-2-12-5
6. Rocking Ruby (6) J: Carter Dalgety T: Cran & Chrissie Dalgety
Two good runs on the Coast from Joany Baby (1) but the Reefton run was really good. Motukarara should suit as there is a long straight to wind up on and with clear air the top of the straight she’ll be closing this one out quicker than anything else.
Selections: 1-11-7-3-4
1. Joany Baby (1) J: Sheree Tomlinson 05832T: Denis O’Connell
Purchased into the Sam Thornley barn off the back of some very good workouts and trials in Mid Canterbury, There He Goes (9) should be a quick winner for the new owners. Looks above average and while meeting a nice field here can get into the right spot to be a major player.
Selections: 9-3-4-2-7
9. There He Goes (9) J: Sam Thornley T: Sam Thornley
Probably no doubting that in terms of a ceiling and natural ability nothing else matches up to Prestigious (5) in this field. He’s still piecing it all together though so isn’t just going to rock up and win for fun. That said, with good manners he should be awfully hard to beat.
Selections: 5-16-1-14-10
5. Prestigious (5) J: Kimberly Butt 21925T: Jonny Cox
Cracking first up run from Katys Shadow (9) to start the new campaign and was only ever going to be better for having that run too. Even field here, but not helped by the wide draw but the advantage of Riley Harrison in the bike at the moment is worth a couple of lengths too.
Selections: 9-1-4-2-7
9. Katys Shadow (9) J: Riley Harrison 014×3T: Robert & Jenna Dunn
Expect a pretty sharp turn around from the capable Zoom X (3) today after the fresh up run at Addington. Really nice horse who has taken on some much stronger fields and if he can find a spot on the speed early he’ll take a bit of catching.
Selections: 3-11-10-5-6
| 3. Zoom X (3) Scratched: | |||
Untapped trotter Lauzelle (14) returns here after getting it wrong at Addington. Back on the grass today and a really sharp trial on Tuesday point toward a pretty big run here today as long as the manners are there. Will win plenty more races and can start here.
Selections: 14-6-4-3-7
14. Lauzelle (0) J: Leo O’Reilly 119T: Stephen Williams
Superb at Reefton on Sunday, The Coalman (3) gets back on the other side of the Southern Alps and can carry things on. Great manners and a good follower of speed, he’ll be hard to hold out if he can grab the right trip in this.
Selections: 3-4-8-5-2
3. The Coalman (3) J: Samantha Ottley 33892T: Mark Jones
Just the kind of race today that you might expect Carlin (6) to pop up in. Capable horse and with a bit of aggression here early can land in a good spot and perhaps even look to take control of things. Wouldn’t be a surprise at all to see a winning turn unfold.
Selections: 6-2-7-3-1
6. Carlin (6) J: Sheree Tomlinson 78374T: Bruce Negus
