Matt Markham gives his best in all 10 races at Gore Harness on Thursday 19 March.
Some really improved efforts of late from Rockin Roman (10) and it would seem that another victory is only just around the corner. Nice even field to take on here which will be a big help and a good run through from the second line and we’re well in play.
Selections: 10-1-6-9-5
10. Rockin Roman (10) J: Mark Hurrell 82362 T: Richard Austin
A lot to like about The Dancer (3) in the most recent trial at Ashburton. Was beaten by a couple of handy ones and found the line really well to close off strong. A bit to learn still but natural talent will carry a long way in this line up.
Selections: 3-13-2-8-10
3. The Dancer (3) J: Matthew Williamson T: Matthew Williamson
Two cracking runs at Addington from Fanfare (4) should be turned into a winning result today for the promising two-year-old. Improved from run to run and if up on the speed here today then will take a power of holding out based on what we’ve seen.
Selections: 4-6-2-5-6
4. Fanfare (4) J: Brent Barclay 22 T: Bob Butt
The first few hundred metres are pretty key here for Styrax (8) but if she could trot away quickly, find some rhythm and just press on until she finds the front then they might end up chasing a shadow. Fitness levels are good. Just needs to trot.
Selections: 8-7-10-9-4
8. Styrax (0) J: Kerryn Tomlinson 06845 T: Gay McClymont
From the good draw, there is only one direction that Always A Menace (3) is heading today and that is forward. Has been great over the past few months and if able to find the markers today then should look to run them off their feet over the final lap.
Selections: 3-2-6-9-12
3. Always A Menace (3) J: Hayden Douglas 20116 T: Matt Brinsdon
Backed up a good win two starts back with a very strong second last time and Roseanna (4) slides into this race beautifully. More natural ability than most in this and if able to find the right kind of trip then would take a power of holding out.
Selections: 4-5-8-3-11
4. Roseanna (1) J: Brad Williamson 50d12 T: Alister Black
Expecting Chicago Sky (3) to take a lot of benefit out of her first up run last time. Her chances were left in the hands of the gods a little then and she almost pulled it off but with fitness growing the kid gloves may well come off today.
Selections: 3-5-1-8-4
3. Chicago Sky (3) J: Brent Barclay 243×2 T: Katrina & John Price
A few of the big guns who have been causing Wag Star (7) a few headaches since resuming from the spell aren’t here today and so the big fella gets his chance to press on and find the front and run them ragged. Best version wins, no doubt.
Selections: 7-6-2-5-4
7. Wag Star (3) J: Craig Ferguson 52213 T: Craig Ferguson
He just keeps finding one better does Show Stopper (3) but the good news here is that he really does look the one they all need to beat. Some handy types, but no huge stars and he can roll to the front, control the tempo and dash home.
Selections: 3-9-5-7-6
3. Show Stopper (3) J: Carter Dalgety x3222 T: Cran & Chrissie Dalgety
Big step up in grade for Crimson Tide (4) who was a maiden two starts ago, but there’s a little bit of x-factor there and with a good draw over key rivals might look to get on the speed and be in the right spot turning in. A win would be no surprise, but each way all day.
Selections: 4-7-8-9-12
4. Crimson Tide (4) J: Tim Williams 4×11 T: Steve & Amanda Telfer
