Matt Markham gives his best in all races at Cambridge Harness on Thursday 5 March.
In a field that offers little perspective in terms of leading contenders, Enzo (6) finds a way there almost by default. Relegated at Auckland last week after a late gallop, but the run was very good and anything close to that, without the mistake, would just about be good enough to win this.
Selections: 6-2-4-3-5
6. Enzo (0) J: Benjamin Butcher 06945 T: David Butcher
For almost the entirety of the straight here a fortnight ago, Hilarious Love (2) looked the winner but was collared right on the line, by not one but two to finish in third. A much improved effort and will have taken benefit from that too. Nice draw today so should be right in the fight again.
Selections: 2-4-5-7-3
2. Hilarious Love (2) J: Peter Young 87×73 T: Tony Shaw & James Stephens
Sneaking away from Auckland after a couple of handy efforts in the past three runs, Magenta (3) might be able to put the hoof in the till here tonight. The run two starts back behind It’s Not Kathy was very good and eye-catching and something close to that would be good enough to win this.
Selections: 3-1-7-5-4
3. Magenta (3) J: Alicia Harrison 86537 T: Tony Herlihy
Lots to like about the fours runs back from a spell this time in from Carolan Questro (1) and with blistering gate speed is likely to land in all the right places here tonight. Can punch out and pick the right battle from there but if close enough turning for home should be going close.
Selections: 1-6-9-3-7
1. Carolan Questro (1) J: Emily Johnson x1032 T: Rod MacKenzie
A big factor in the likely return to form tonight for Crazy (1) will be the mobile start. Has a very good record from behind the arm and has won a few races like this on the track too. Always a little heart in your mouth to watch but a complete performance should be good enough to win.
Selections: 1-8-7-3-5
1. Crazy (1) J: Zachary Butcher 30085 T: Tim Hall
Quite possibly the drop back horse of the week, Leo Lincoln (6) should relish tonight’s opportunity. Has been racing in behind Doo You Want Me and Sooner The Bettor in his last two runs so this is a significant ease in grade and should result in a return to form.
Selections: 6-5-3-2-1
6. Leo Lincoln (6) J: Nathan Delany x5888 T: Ray Green & Nathan Delany
Formerly trained in the south by Greg and Ben Hope, Luca (5) comes north and can grab an immediate result too. Has a very high turn of foot and if the manners are there and the opportunity presents look for a big dash late.
Selections: 5-4-3-1-8
5. Luca (1) J: Emily Johnson 22518 T: Sean McCaffrey
