A mistake from behind the tapes last time out spoiled the otherwise perfect record for Final Approach (6) so far in this campaign but a chance behind the mobile arm here can help put things back on track. A progressive trotter with a big future and even from the wide draw looks a live chance.

A first starter from the Tony Herlihy stable, Shades Of Cool (8) looks to have a decent motor based off what we’ve seen in trials and workouts ahead of this debut. Wide draw is a bit of a concern but likely to have started around $2 if drawn a little closer in, so well worth a play.

A return to winning form last week for Crazy (7) when back behind the mobile and gets the same conditions here too. Not a huge step up in grade either and if able to put it all together and run up to the ability then should be winning once more.

Hard to put into words just how impressive Jumal (6) was winning at Addington in a fresh state. An unbelievable performance. First look at Auckland here, but he’s a class horse with it all in front of him over the coming months and should prove hard to stop again tonight.

Really nice first up run from All Of Me (3) to kick off the new campaign and she lands here beautifully. Good draw, while a bad draw for some key rivals, improved off the first up run and likely to find the front and control things. It’s her race to lose tonight.

An excitement machine in the NZ Trotting ranks, Hillbilly Blues (4) resumes from a spell tonight and while not yet fully screwed down, he will be near enough to be the horse to beat here. Good draw helps and with a nice trip should prove hard to catch.

The best horse in the land returns to the track tonight and surprisingly, Republican Party (7) is not a dominant favourite. With some big tasks ahead, there’s enough uncertainty around how things might pan out that he’s offering up a bit of value. Any kind of luck though and he’ll still be too good for them.

A beautifully bred trotting debut from the Stonewall Stud barn, Tattica (6) looks to have inherited a lot of the family ability based off the public runs and a small field here on debut really suits too. It really just comes down to manners and handling the racenight experience.

Up from the South Island and looking to build on a good campaign so far, Sonofamistery (4) isn’t that far behind the best ones of his age group and as long as he handles the Alexandra Park way of going tonight you’d expect him to be winning on natural ability.
