Sale hosts Victoria’s feature midweek meeting on Wednesday, with an eight-race card on offer.
Early betting points to a strong day for the favourites, with several short-priced runners shaping as tough to beat — highlighted by our Best Bet in Race 6, a promising sprinter from the Ciaron Maher stable.

SEA TRADER (4) returns a gelding for Robbie Griffiths and connections.
The three-year-old son to Hanseatic debuted at Sandown last September over 1300m, drifting four-wide in the run and never really letting down at the top of the straight, finishing a distant 4.8 lengths off in the end.
He had excuses that day mind you, and he has looked in great order winning a recent Cranbourne jump out.
Drawn well and likely better suited stepping out over 1000m this time; he should be in this for a long way if he sets up close to the speed.

Plenty to like about the return of PRINCESS PAINTON (4) at Geelong a few weeks ago.
The grey daughter to Reliable Man was away only fairly, spotting her rivals several lengths when settling towards the tail, eventually motoring home down the straight for fourth in a strong showing through the line.
She’d benefit immensely from a handier sit closer to the speed this time, and I dare say the rise in trip will be a bonus with improvement still to come.

SAVISANTA (5) should have several lengths on most of these in terms of class.
Chris Waller’s three-year-old has gone up short odds in search of his first win, and this race shapes as nothing more than a confidence builder after placing in the Geelong Classic last year on his way to a midfield finish in the Group 1 Victoria Derby.
By Savabeel, he hasn’t been asked to do much at the jump outs, but he’s drawn to get a dream run in transit from barrier 4 with bigger races in mind as the autumn progresses.

SATTVA (11) comes back to race over 1200m in her second start since joining the Freedman camp.
This lightly-raced daughter also out of Savabeel was beaten 1.3 lengths over a touch further at Sandown three weeks ago, running on only fairly after she took a while to accelerate through a late gap after shifting off the fence.
She stuck on well all the way through the line but may have found the 1300m trip a little sharp in just her second start.
Race fit now, she appeals in an open race.

BOHEMIAN ANGEL (6) gets in nicely at the weights thanks to the 2kg claim.
The Moody and Coleman mare was much-improved last start at Pakenham, splitting a pair of runners approaching the furlong to run second, beaten only half a length.
She’s hard fit now third-up and drawn to get right back off the speed from the low gate and save her best for the finish.

TOWER BRIDGE (3) should be revved up and tough to hold out off a six-week let-up.
The colt out of I Am Invincible shed the maiden tag two back at Geelong by a stunning 3.5 length margin, before stepping up a level at Sandown three weeks later where he was only run down inside the final 200m.
Ciaron Maher chose to give him a trial between runs and boy did he look in good order settling up close to the front, accelerating late once Ethan Brown pushed the button.
The pair combine again here for the first

HOUDINI (2) appeals third-up.
The Snitzel four-year-old has been tough to follow at times, but he was one of the runs of the race for mine at Sandown last week, storming home late for third behind the talented Figlio D’argento to rattle off some impressive late times in the process.
The decision to go around on the quick seven-day backup is notable alongside a solid third-up record that include a win and a place.

SUNSET BEAUTY (8) is racing well enough to give this a serious shake.
In work since earlier December, she’s finished top five in each of the las four start she’s contested, last seen running on well for second at Werribee to find the front at the top of the straight before Sotomayor got the better of her.
She’s a proven wet tracker, so with soft conditions under foot and the drop back to 55kg also working her favour, she’s a definite each-way chance in a tricky race to end the day.
