Matt Markham gives his best in all races at Motukarara Harness on Sunday 15 February.
Not a lot of room at a critical point in proceedings at Rangiora last week for Mike’s Eyre (13) and he went to the line under a good hold. Not an easy set up here though either. Will need a bit of a drag into the race at some point but looks the best in the field so can definitely win with it.
Selections: 13-2-12-6-4
13. Mike’s Eyre (13) J: Ben Hope 178 T: Greg & Ben Hope
A bit of learning being undertaken by Gimme Three Steps (15) in the career to date but no doubting the ability is there to win a maiden without too much stress. Just needs to trot and it can happen today.
Selections: 15-1-11-14-7

Lovely progression from the first up run to the next from Happy Harriet (7) at Addington last time out. Headed in the right direction. Finds a very winnable race today too and if able to get onto the speed at some point should be there fighting out the finish.
Selections: 7-6-10-2-3
7. Happy Harriet (7) J: Robbie Close 34562 T: John Howe
Got around at Methven last weekend which was an improvement for Kensington Mike (10) but then look to throw the race away by switching off inside the final 200m. Getting better and no doubt better than a maiden anyway so can win this.
Selections: 10-7-4-8-6
10. Kensington Mike (10) J: Terry Chmiel 57×84 T: Steve & Amanda Telfer
The perfect kind of set up for Buffy Northstains (1). Will trot away and be close to the speed throughout and with a cold shot at them inside the final 200m has the class to run anything in this field down. Just needs the rub of the green.
Selections: 1-10-12-5-2
1. Buffy Northstains (1) J: Mia Holbrough 58555 T: Bruce Negus
Made a mid-race move at Methven and Times Like These (11) fought on pretty bravely. Is going to win another one soon and with a bit of luck from the second row draw that next win can come today without too much fuss.
Selections: 11-2-9-3-7
11. Times Like These (11) J: Blair Orange 54625 T: Barry Ward
Progressive and powerful pacer John Stewart (7) chases a penalty free win here after a bold effort at Addington last time out when beaten by a pretty smart one. Loves the course and drawn to roll forward. Good enough to lead them throughout too.
Selections: 7-12-1-13-6
7. John Stewart (7) J: Alana Cameron 2l112 T: Joseph Gray
The jump and run method is working a treat for Petite Trixton (1) at the moment and back on a track she loves today with a draw to use, she might just look to go all the way once again. This is no harder than her Addington win last time so a strong prospect.
Selections: 1-10-13-6-4
1. Petite Trixton (1) J: Kimberly Butt 32311 T: Brent & Tim White
Wins don’t come often for Jukebox Gypsy (1) but she never really runs a bad race either. Nice set up here if she can hold up enough to be close to the speed throughout and with a cold shot at them from the top of the straight, she’ll be charging better than most.
Selections: 1-8-3-12-6
1. Jukebox Gypsy (1) J: Gerard O’Reilly 32923 T: Gerard O’Reilly
It was only a maiden win but the effort of Hez A Loch (8) to win at Methven was pretty impressive. Came from a long way back and did it nicely. Looks a horse who will be suited to being up in grade and if they bowl along in front he can have the final say again.
Selections: 8-11-10-12-9
8. Hez A Loch (8) J: Kyle Cameron 47021 T: Ian Cameron
Didn’t quite let down like perhaps should have happened at Methven last week but prepared to forgive Bristall Babe (2) for that. Looks a pretty sharp horse in the making and if able to trot away again today and be a little closer to the speed has the class to win.
Selections: 2-7-8-9-6
2. Birstall Babe (2) J: Ben Hope 126 T: Greg & Ben Hope
Two super runs back from a spell by Lilac Luxury (12) and she looks set to find her way into the winners’ circle at short notice. Nice chance today, even from the tricky draw. Just needs that little run of the green at the right time.
Selections: 12-11-2-10-8
12. Lilac Luxury (0) J: Robbie Close 09×32 T: Dean Taylor
