Matt Markham gives his best in all races at Cromwell Harness on Sunday 22 February.
Found trouble around the last bend on Friday and by the time Stumpy Blackler (2) found clear air the bird had well and truly flown. Better set up here and from the good draw should be a lot handier to them and finally breaking through for a maiden victory.
Selections: 2-1-4-5-7
2. Stumpy Blackler (2) J: Nikita Burton 25222 T: Steve & Amanda Telfer
A tragedy beaten here on debut on Friday, there will be plenty lining up to get payback off Premier Arden (2) here today. Had no right to finish as close as she did really. No bad luck today and she looks the best of good things for the day.
Selections: 2-5-3-7-8
2. Premier Arden (2) J: Nikita Burton 2 T: Steve & Amanda Telfer
Not bad here on Friday when second again, but Garonne (3) would want to trot up the straight a little better than he did. Deserves a winning turn after a string of good efforts and in a better rhythm here can finally break through.
Selections: 3-4-2-7-1
3. Garonne (3) J: Kirstin Green 22322 T: Kirstin Green
Showed really good gate speed on day one to hold the marker pegs and from a wider draw here, there only looks one way for The Orange Roughy (5) to head again here. Own terms in front and might be a little too good for them today.
Selections: 5-1-2-11-9
5. The Orange Roughy (5) J: Seth Hill 64292 T: Kirstin Green
Looked set to win by three in a jog here on Friday before switching off but Randel Huston P (3) got the job done eventually. Hit or miss type but when he’s in the zone he’s pretty good and with a nice trip again today there’s no reason why he won’t go back-to-back.
Selections: 3-4-1-5-6
3. Randel Huston P (1) J: Blair Orange 84841 T: Brent & Tim White
One spot too far back on Friday, but the work through the line from Logan Rock (1) was great. Can ping out from the same draw again today and with a sweet trip just off the speed have the final say and sneak up the lane at a nice price.
Selections: 1-7-6-8-3
1. Logan Rock (1) J: Natasha Kyle 00653 T: Andrew Stuart
Nice set up for Captain Amore (2) today after a good run on Friday. Gets the chance to buzz the gate and looked to lead them up here and with not a lot of mid-race pressure might be able to set them up for a dash home and hold on for victory.
Selections: 2-5-3-10-1
2. Captain Amore (2) J: Georgia Goodman 96353 T: Alister Black
Won the Cromwell Cup here earlier in the year in fine fashion and while he’s been busy since Hacksaw Ridge (5) looks well in here. Loves the grass and the small field really suits so looking for a big performance here.
Selections: 5-8-7-6-4
5. Hacksaw Ridge (1) J: Matthew Williamson 16439 T: Ricky Gutsell
Too good for most of these on Friday and not severely penalised for that win at the handicaps either so if the same version of Harriet’s Moment (13) turns up here then there’s no reason why she won’t win again. Nice horse on her day.
Selections: 13-11-10-5-2
13. Harriet’s Moment (0) J: Phil Williamson 12451 T: Phil Williamson
Won in a bit of style here on Friday and no penalty for Always Be Batman (7) so he should be hard to beat again. Might look to go back early and then work into it, but wouldn’t be surprised to see him roll forward and look to control it from the top.
Selections: 7-3-5-6-4
7. Always Be Batman (7) J: Hayden Douglas 19461 T: Jeremy Douglas
