Matt Markham gives his best in all races at Ashburton Harness on Sunday 22 February.
A nice set up here for Royal Gypsy (1) to jump and run them along. Hasn’t been going bad of late but perhaps not quite as sharp as things looked early in the career. Big opportunity today to turn things right around with a winning run.
Selections: 1-2-7-6-5

One run at the races for Crimson Tide (1) in August of last year for a fourth placing. That was behind Lizzie Borden, so in decent company. A sharp recent trial win on this track suggested he’s come back well and a winning return would be no surprise.
Selections: 1-3-9-7-4
1. Crimson Tide (1) J: Tim Williams 4xT: Steve & Amanda Telfer
Well bred debutant Aldebaran Lobell (1) kicks off the career here and has looked every bit an early winner in all of the public runs. Barrier one might not be an ideal set up first go at the races but with manners will be the one they all need to beat here.
Selections: 1-5-6-15-13
1. Aldebaran Lobell (1) J: Bob Butt T: Bob Butt
Back from a spell after showing promise in the early career, Ebony Arden (5) caught the eye with a fast-finishing effort last week at Rangiora in a pretty smart field. She’s got high speed to burn but might look to take bad luck out of the equation. Either way, the one to beat.
Selections: 5-7-3-2-1
5. Ebony Arden (5) J: Tim Williams 1510xT: Steve & Amanda Telfer
Talented trotter Prestigious (2) makes his way back to the races here after one run in 2026 where a bold second down on the Central Otago circuit. Back here to win a trial two weeks ago and looked really strong doing it. Best version wins this.
Selections: 2-5-8-9-15
2. Prestigious (2) J: Kimberly Butt 2192T: Jonny Cox
Back at the races after a freshen up, Burnham Girl (6) ran some nice races without a lot of luck over the holiday period and looks a good chance of stepping out here in a fresh state and running a big race. Has the measure of most on ability, but might lack a little fitness.
Selections: 6-2-3-10-14
6. Burnham Girl (6) J: Samantha Ottley 00432T: Mark Jones
More good than bad lately from Playoffs (5) and maybe the penny is finally starting to drop. Just needs to the bring the manners and will be well in play here. Could trot straight to the front and not look back even. A risky play, but one worth it if everything goes to plan.
Selections: 5-8-4-3-7
| 5. Playoffs (0) Scratched: | |||
Nice wee option here today for Flying Bird (6) after a string of really good efforts in some strong races of late. A good beginning and she’s a chance of finding her way onto the top end early and looking to go all of the way.
Selections: 6-2-8-5-9
6. Flying Bird (2) J: Gavin Smith 62205T: Matt Purvis
Plenty of good in the most recent efforts of Jazzys Upstart (4) including a good win when last produced on this track. Is pretty adaptable, but with a good sit and a solid tempo is going more than well enough to get home over the top of this field.
Selections: 4-5-6-8-2
4. Jazzys Upstart (4) J: Sarah O’Reilly 31334T: Brent & Tim White
