Matt Markham gives his best in all races at Timaru Harness on Wednesday 7 January.
Just got too far back at Motukarara last week but the prior runs of Jazzy’s Upstart (1) signalled another win isn’t too far away with some really strong efforts. Ace draw is a huge plus here and with a sweet trip just off the speed she can have the final say.
Selections: 1-4-6-7-3
1. Jazzys Upstart (1) J: Sarah O’Reilly 05560T: Brent & Tim White
If not for the crossing at Motukarara then Heza Cool Dude (2) may well have quit maidens a week ago. He’s a nice trotter in the making and if he catches the start right today and lands on the speed, they’ll be chasing him the whole way.
Selections: 2-13-14-5-13
2. Heza Cool Dude (2) J: Blair Orange p5T: Kevin Brosnahan
Two good runs to open the new campaign from Salute (6) and if he was to continue that improvement he wouldn’t have to be much better to be winning today in what is a small field. No star, but good enough to get the job done.
Selections: 6-2-3-5-7
6. Salute (6) J: Matthew Williamson 79×65T: Steve Allen
No doubt the ability is there to win a maiden race like for Blaze Craze (2) and perhaps with three runs under the belt now it might happen. Even field and the barrier draw is a very good help. Would expect a confident drive to net a confident result.
Selections: 2-8-7-9-1
2. Blaze Craze (2) J: Devon Dolan p55T: Steve Dolan
No manners the other day at The Mot, but getting back onto the grit today will be a big assist for Coba Charged (8). Start prior to the last one was in the NZ Pacing Derby, so sliding right back in grade. Best version of this field would win this race for fun.
Selections: 8-7-4-5-1
| 8. Coba Charged (3) Scratched: | |||
The most consistent and most reliable horse in this race, Major Happy (6) really selects herself. Has actually been in some strong races of late and this is a bit of a step back. Could make her own luck and deliver a victory here.
Selections: 6-9-5-2-1
6. Major Happy (6) J: Riley Harrison 31238T: Philip Vermeulen
No luck at all in the last couple of runs for Almighty (8) but hasn’t been bad in either race as well. Wide draw here but if she can slot into a handy spot her Addington form would be good enough to win this race quite easily. A nice each way bet.
Selections: 8-3-6-5-11
8. Almighty (8) J: Kimberly Butt 03288T: Jonny Cox
Racing really well at the moment and although stepping from the grass to the all weather, Hey Tonight (1) should still be a strong winning hope. Will hold up a forward position and just keep trucking. In a survival of the fittest will win most times.
Selections: 1-2-4-3-5
1. Hey Tonight (1) J: Blair Orange 21692T: Barry Ward
