Matt Markham gives his best in all races at Nelson Harness on Sunday 11 January.
Led them up a merry chase on Day One and didn’t throw the towel in with a brave third and on the quick back up Rack’em Up (1) looks the horse to beat here. Gate speed to use to be handy and with own terms over the short trip, should be hard to catch.
Selections: 1-8-4-7-6
1. Rack’em Up (1) J: Jonny Cox x6753T: Andrew Drake
Got it wrong at the start on Friday and took no part but Ridge (7) slides back in grade here today and starts off the 30m handicap behind the maidens. A good beginning and a run akin to the second two starts back at Rangiora and she should be hard to hold out.
Selections: 7-1-3-5-6
7. Ridge (0) J: Blair Orange 30727T: Brent & Tim White
All at sea on a couple of occasions on Friday when well supported but with experience under the belt Hawk Touie Louie (4) can atone here. Has the motor, just not yet the ringcraft but when it all comes together he should win on pretty quickly.
Selections: 4-6-5-10-7
4. Hawk Touie Louie (4) J: Bob Butt 3×0T: Bob Butt
After getting a little lost on the home bend on Day One, Loveyou To Da Skye (7) balanced up really well and was very strong through the line. No doubt the ability is there to win this, just needs to bring the manners and be close enough turning for home.
Selections: 7-3-6-4-2
7. Loveyou To Da Skye (0) J: Gavin Smith 86×15T: Gavin Smith
Powerful effort on Friday from Dancing N Heaven (9), if anything it looked like he got to the front a little too early and waited on his rivals a bit and was run down in the shadows of the post for second. Wide draw here, but a strong tempo in front of him and he can be the one charging late today.
Selections: 9-1-6-10-2
9. Dancing N Heaven (9) J: John Morrison 97×42T: John Morrison
Bested only by a very smart one on Friday in Captain Tyron, this maps out beautifully for Princess Renee (1) today. She’s quality herself and with a small field and a good draw, looks the one they all need to beat.
Selections: 1-7-5-6-2
1. Princess Renee (1) J: Blair Orange 102T: Hayden & Amanda Cullen
A really strong performance on Friday from Carlin (6) and getting onto the front line here today can be a huge help to the chances. Generally pretty good away from the stand and if able to find the right spot should be able to wind up and be a major player here.
Selections: 6-9-4-2-3
6. Carlin (6) J: Sheree Tomlinson 82502T: Bruce Negus
After a quick beginning and being able to find the front, Nellie Doyle (9) never really looked in doubt here on day one. Unbeaten in three starts on the track there’s no reason why she can’t make it four today if things pan out the same way.
Selections: 9-5-1-7-6
9. Nellie Doyle (1) J: Blair Orange 07161T: Tim Trathen
Fought really hard to get the nose in front at the right moment on Day One did Gone Surfin (10) and while facing a slightly different set up here from the draw, should actually get a sweet run through following Friday’s leader. Can win again.
Selections: 10-6-1-8-5
10. Gone Surfin (10) J: Jacob Dunn 01431T: Robert & Jenna Dunn
Breathtaking victory at Omakau from Pinseeker (9) after a lightning mid-race move to find the front. Saved for this and even from the wide draw, if he lights things up again and gets around them to the front they might not run him down.
Selections: 9-5-7-6-4
9. Pinseeker (9) J: Jonny Cox 04031T: Jonny Cox
There’s something about Captain Tyron (3) that screams very good horse. So effortless in victory on Friday and while taking another step up here, looks like to roll across to the front again and make them all chase a shadow once more.
Selections: 3-9-8-6-5
3. Captain Tyron (3) J: John Dunn 211T: Robert & Jenna Dunn
